MLB draft

Jun 7, 2016, 10:28 AM

Questions for the board:

Who all do you think has a chance to get drafted?

And, what underclassmen do you think we'll lose?

Thanks, and I'll hang-up and listen....

Okey
White
Wilson
Bostic (LH pitchers that can throw fast are highly valued)
Chris Williams? I know he is only a sophomore but my understanding is if you go JUCO you can then go pro whenever you want.
Rohlman is also 3 years removed from high school so he is eligible to be drafted. It would be a toss up in my opinion as to whether he signs. No doubt he will be drafted but just not sure how high.

Schmidt
Triller
Andrews

All seniors and are out of eligibility. Only Schmidt warrants a look in my opinion.

Don't think Williams is draft eligible

Jun 7, 2016, 11:14 AM

he could have been drafted after JUCO (I think) but now that he's here we've got him for another year. He'll be over 21 and completed his Jr year.

I was talking about Jrs that will not be back.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Excellent Analysis. What about our signees?

Jun 7, 2016, 4:27 PM [ in reply to Re: MLB draft ]

Which ones are high draft possibilities?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Andrews will probably get a look late

Jun 7, 2016, 4:47 PM [ in reply to Re: MLB draft ]

he's big and throws pretty hard, probably worth the relatively small investment to a team to try to tweak his delivery and see if he improves.

I'm not sure if White or Wilson will leave, depends on where they're drafted and if they think they can improve their stock. at least one of them probably will though.

Krall might go, but he won't be drafted particularly high because he's a control pitcher.
Gibson took a job and is already gone.
Wouldn't be surprised to see transfers from several guys who aren't playing or Campana go ahead and call it a career (I think he graduated)

Patrick Andrews has a year left of eligibility. He is

Jun 7, 2016, 5:21 PM [ in reply to Re: MLB draft ]

planning on coming back.

How?

He's pitched in 4 seasons and took got a medical exemption for 2015. Did he manage to get one for 2014 too?

The MLB Network had a show the other night, and they rated Okey as about the 40th best prospect in the draft. A couple of the other college catchers who were ranked higher than Okey were projected as playing other position, so Okey has a good chance of going in the first round.

None of them should go with a high draft round if they don't have to. Not unless they are willing to play little man ball until they finally get dropped completely!!!

Re: MLB draft

Okey, Wilson and Bostic if he can control his pitches.
Have the talent to play for a while.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

By high round do you mean late round?

Jun 7, 2016, 4:49 PM [ in reply to Re: MLB draft ]

because otherwise your comment doesn't make sense.

Our commitment Carter Kieboom is projected in 2nd round.

Re: MLB draft

Jun 7, 2016, 4:39 PM

Carter has alot of momentum going into the draft. I see where some scouts have him as high as late first round now. Hard hitting 3rd baseball with a good bat. Will be in very high emand this week.

Wonder if he wants to head to college or the bus leagues.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If he goes 1st round he'll get over a $1 Million bonus

Jun 7, 2016, 4:52 PM

I'd go to the bus leagues for that kind of cheddar.

Senior year of high school and junior year of college are the years you have leverage. If you wait till you're out of college eligibility you have no leverage to negotiate.

Re: If he goes 1st round he'll get over a $1 Million bonus

Jun 7, 2016, 5:28 PM

Everything is slotted now with payments rates. It is not as important and negotiations are not as large and varied as in years past.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Still varies a good bit

Jun 8, 2016, 9:39 AM

A lot of the first rounders get under slot value, while guys in the 2nd round or later can get well over slot value.
