Minus Chad Morris there is very little motion and eye candy going on

Oct 6, 2021, 12:45 PM

We have lived off of our great QBs and receivers for past several years The scheme without a lot of eye candy and motion has become stale Run the RB first down and If less than 3 yards run him again If more then pass Everyone knows our play before we do Chads offense overcame good defenses I remember when we defeated Ohio State in a bowl game Both scored in the 40s but Chad with Tahg Boyd as QB kept the Buckeyes on their heels

It's really bad in the second half when we need to burn clock. It's always run twice then throw for the first down. Think back through the last several years at how many times we had the ball to seal it and then ran it twice up the middle to give it up to the other team and leave our defense to save us. ND last year was especially hurtful. Our offense was playing lights out and moving the ball almost every series. We shut down the offense on the last drive when just running our offense would have had a better chance of running out the clock.

Exactly. There is zero evidence to suggest Morris would have

done what Elliot did. Just a wild guess and nothing more.

Our offense took a major leap forward when Elliott took over, it became an elite, explosive offense regardless of opponents basically right away. The offensive uplift was obvious from the minute Elliott took over, starting immediately in the bowl game where we were the underdog against Oklahoma, with Cole Stoudt no less.

Like you said, other than bringing our offense out of the dark ages, Morris hasn't done anything close to what Elliot has. In fact, he's done nothing but severely regress since 2014. He was good for us, but he reached his peak. We would have burned out long ago, just like his schemes and follow-up jobs indicate. He's back coaching HS ball in Texas, meanwhile we've done what we done. There is no evidence to say Morris had us on the brink of elite-dom... that we would have suddenly became elite, maintained this run, had more wins than anyone but Bama since 2015, 6 straight CFP appearances, more playoff wins then anyone except Bama, 4 national title games, and two national titles. Shoot anyone can do that, except nobody has.

It's just Judge trying to discount the (by far) most successful OC and program run in the history of Clemson football. It's so easy anyone can do it. Heck, he even told me in another post that we've been as good as we have because of players only. Good players don't need to coaches to train them, call the right plays, and put them in position to be successful.

Morris never had Deshaun even though he recruited him to Clemson He never had Lawrence I could have called the plays for those two and won He would have never recruited DJ because his QBs had to be mobil

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes of course

Oct 6, 2021, 8:32 PM

You could have called plays.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m not discounting the role our coaches played in our accomplishments.

Oct 6, 2021, 8:17 PM [ in reply to Exactly. There is zero evidence to suggest Morris would have ]

But having generational talent on offense makes things a lot easier, especially against overmatched ACC opponents.

The reality is that we weren’t prepared when we faced LSU two years ago or Ohio State last year. And that was with Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne.

The logical question is if our offensive coaches can excel without generational talent. This year, through 5 games, the answer is no. The sad part is that we still have loads of talent, just not the almost unfair amount we’ve had in the past.

What evidence do you have that Dabo, Elliott, and Streeter are capable of being successful with an offense without a generational QB? Because I have five games’ worth of evidence that they can’t.

We are the 2nd best team in America in the CFP era.

Oct 6, 2021, 8:31 PM

Why is nobody else? Lot's of teams have equal or better talent. So why are we the team with more playoff wins, 6 straight playoffs, 4 of 6 national title games, 2 national titles? What separates us from all those other teams with equal or better talent? COACHING. Duh.

Stop trying so hard.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’ll tell you why we have done so well the last six years.

Oct 6, 2021, 8:41 PM

1. We’ve had the best QB in college football all but one of those years.
2. We have had the best defensive coordinator in college football all of those years.
3. We have had among the best RB and WRs in college football most of those years.

When we merely have a “run of the mill” 5 star QB and 4-5 star RBs and WRs as we have this year, we can’t be in the top 100 in offense through 5 games (four of which weren’t against top 25 teams).

This isn’t hard to understand unless your homerism is blinding you.

So we had a good defensive coach but not on offense?

Oct 7, 2021, 12:38 PM

Tell me, does the defensive coach have to call plays too, or does he just run great players out there and they do it themselves? You have to be some kind of special to think players just run out there and make the plays regardless of how good the concepts and calls.

LOL. Good players just win regardless of coaches, riiight. Face it, you're either mentally ill or YOU KNOW NOTHING about football. It's obvious you're trying way too hard in a pathetic effort to drag the football program down, because, well you know, basketball..

Chad Morris brought a much needed toughness to our program.

Oct 6, 2021, 1:48 PM

We were soft and inconsistent prior to his arrival.

His offensive philosophy allowed us to be more competitive with teams that had more talent than we did.

I feel that his tenure at Clemson ran its course, but I do wish our current coaches would revisit some of his ideas because I don't think we would have such a bad offense if he were in charge.

Judge I think you are the only genius on this board. Chad Morris won games by out scoring the opponents We were not as good as the last several years on defense Remember the 70 WV put on us You probably too young to remember us defeating Ohio State with both teams scoring in the 40s during Chads time Dabos rise was due to Chad Morris Oh by the way who found Deshaun Watson in the 9th grade Yes he came to Clemson because of Chad Chad created during the game the way a defense played him Tony has no creative ability He is what you call a caller of plays Chad was always on the field talking to his players Tony is sitting in the box removed from what is going on I could add much more but you get the point We would be 5 and 0 if Chad was the Off Cord

Re: Minus Chad Morris there is very little motion and eye candy going on

Oct 6, 2021, 1:54 PM

There was a time when sending a receiver or back in motion would force the defense to tip their hand for zone or man-to-man. As a QB I’d like any info I can get pre-snap. Motion also is an attempt to get a better match up with a receiver. Motion also gives your guy a running start.

Maybe now with the RPO it is simply… count the defense in the box… run the play.

And that WR screen… that thing is effective what? 1% of the time!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Minus Chad Morris there is very little motion and eye candy going on

Oct 6, 2021, 2:40 PM

The coaches know better than I but It seems we are addicted to the RPO. I think we should run a little RPO but with a young QB we should simplify things until he gets used to running the offense & sprinkling some RPO plays.

We have enough talent to beat most teams If we execute our plays correctly no matter the defense they play.

Oct 6, 2021, 2:48 PM

DJ as a drop-back passer, with less RPO, as he is too slow. However, with the three of these big backs pounding up the middle and off tackles, the other teams D line can be worn out. Develop a pocket for his passing attack and with the run attack going, there will be open recievers all over the field. That last pass to Joe was a thing of beauty, and there should be more confidence now?
