Miami's Stadium being off campus

should have no bearing on them not filling the seats. I know people that drive 4-5 hours to Clemson games every week. I'm tired of hearing that bull. If they had fan support it wouldnt matter that it was 45 minutes off campus. Look at Marlins games, if they arent winning the place is empty. People care about other things down there. I guarantee you if Miami was a national power like they used to be the stadium would be filled.

It's a big deal. Even during their 2001 season their average attendance was only 46162.
It's not just that they have to bus people out there. It's just not a fun atmosphere.

in renovations taking the capacity to 65,000 and becoming one of the nicest stadiums in the country, I would imagine their attendance would increase by 30% or more with a nationally relevant football team.

that design does not look well-suited for hurricane regions.

Even back during the golden era of Miami football....

the fans support was still fairly sporadic especially for those games where the Canes were heavy favorites.
The problem is most of their fans have no vested interest in the University or the team. They're just casual fans who never actually attended the school.

why they even try to care. Miami is a good school who's image is sullied by the reputation their winning football teams had.

very small enrollment and alumni base, combined with the fact that most of their so-called "fans" are of the fair weather variety, has more to do with it.
They also don't have the money that a lot of ACC programs do, that's hurting them as well.

Miami has a bigger Endowment and budget than Clemson does. Quite a bit larger in fact.
When Donna Shalala became President of the University, she was determined to rid the University of its thug and gangsta image which has been reflected in some of the coaching and AD hires. It has also impacted the success of some of their athletic programs.

I'm well aware of that. However, they haven't had the commitment to the football program. Example, they only have $2M available for Golden's replacement.....facilities on campus are, well, pretty bad, etc. etc. etc.
Their real problem is small alumni base, small fan base.
I don't disagree with you on the gangsta theme down there. They need to re-brand themselves.

Campaign to create an endowment to assist the Athletic Department. With a conservative return of 6% that would generate over $6.5 Million per year. Since 2010, they have increased their booster club membership by 80%.
Shalala was fundraising juggernaut with the university just completing a $1.6 Billion Dollar University wide Capital Campaign that was started in 2008.

I'm not sure they can get a guy like Tom Herman or Justin Fuente for $2 million. Too many other schools can out-bid them. Herman and Fuente are already making upwards of $1.3 million annually at non-Power 5 programs and probably much more with incentives.

Will be interesting to see but there will be a trade-off. They have to pay Golden for 4 more years, and are in the midst of a planned facilities upgrade. Paying a new HC more means delaying facilities upgrades, which puts them even further behind the 8-ball.

If your school doesn't care enough about football to invest in an on-campus stadium, you deserve not to have any support IMO.
