Setting out with them. Or, we give up on being top tier. Even Dabo recently said there will be a small pool of teams who will be the superpowers of CFB. ACC does nothing to support that narrative. Clemson is a superpower but conferences with more money and prestige through TV contracts will dominate in the coming era. We gotta be in that pool of teams. Go Tigers!!!!

FSU AD was very vocal after meetings explained that annual income deficit of $30mil plus will never allow ACC be on the same level. He is 100% correct and that doesn't change in any near future.

The SEC is too corrupt for us. I hope we don't pursue that avenue.

Thought I would share this with you. One of my professors in college came from a school in the Midwest that wants everyone to know they are "The" in front of their name. He said corruption in sports cannot hold a candle to the things that goes on to get that research money.

schools like Miami, FSU and Clemson (among others) should be working collectively and cooperatively, and pooling their monetary and legal resources to find a way out of the GOR.

Was not many years ago Miami, VaTech, Fl St were good to great football programs. At least very solid. Clemson picked their game up and everyone else went backwards.

If FSU left for the SEC and Clemson stayed behind, Dabo would have to take a serious cut in pay, or leave for another FB program that could afford him!!!

Could the Big 12 and the ACC come together to make a competitive tv package?
I don’t know just asking for thoughts on that scenario or will it just be the B1G and SEC?

football programs. This consolidation of most of the top P5 programs into those two conferences may be great for those two in football, but it's not worth a damm for the other sports, causing sports that already lose money to lose even more money, with the increased travel and all.
The conferences should have stayed like they were 10 years ago, for all sports except football. Then the top 45-50 P5 football schools, who really want to play big boy football, should have their own football only super conference, maybe split into four divisions, then the top two from each division get in an eight team playoff!
This would have been a much better scenario than what's coming down the pike in the near future!

The SEC and B1G are practicing what is known as capitalism

Growing the football revenue pie as large as possible to fund other sports will make their athletic programs stronger than ever. At any individual school, whatever is good for football is good for the other sports. The additional travel costs are peanuts in comparison.
The SEC and B1G hoarding the best football programs to themselves only harms schools outside of those two conferences. The SEC and B1G don't give a care about other schools.
Two conferences and their member schools are winners. Everyone else loses (except maybe Notre Dame). That's how competitive businesses operate.
Just to restate something: Football revenue funds the other sports. You cannot divide football into a Top 50 special class of schools and leave the other sports divided between 5 conferences because the Top 50 will fund and dominate the other sports just like they do football.

A B12 + ACC merger does not address the primary issue
Feb 24, 2023, 11:56 PM
[ in reply to Re: If FSU sets out for SEC, we gotta be ] |

which is PER SCHOOL annual revenue.
In other words, getting bigger is only better when the new schools bring equal or better value than current members of a conference. This explains why the SEC wanted OU and (especially Texas) very badly and why those two leaving is so devastating to the B12. The B1G then made their move for crown jewel USC and had to accept UCLA in a package deal.
Creating the "Big Mess" conference by merging the B12 and ACC would not increase the per school annual revenue. It would just be a bigger conference with more teams.
If the B12 could pluck only Clemson and FSU, they would do it in a heartbeat. That might be enough to ensure the B12's viability for the very long term. But the B12 wants nothing to do with BC, Syracuse, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest.

If the CFP does go through with their (8) team expansion...
Wouldn't there be (1) team from each of the current P5? So if there is conference alignment that brings Tex@ss and Oklahomos into the SEC...isnt it harder for them to get the (3) at-large spots?
Heather Dinnich would def want NIU in there.
Just saying why not stick in your 'City' Football Conference and be the top dog, then to join a fungus bunch?

highest ranked conference champs. I think in 2021, both Cincinnati and Coastal were ranked higher than any PAC 12 school, so the PAC 12 champ would have been left out of a 12 team playoff!
