The idea that a small business can use donations to pay players for marketing has to show a huge whole in the NIL plans. A lot of 250k companies soon to show 1M tax returns and marketing campaigns.

cover to just pay players. Heck what does the NIL folks consider an "endorsement" - a single Facebook or Twitter post saying "I like Joe's gym". Unfortunately, it won't be long before others follow suit with these faux "endorsements" as a front for just paying the players.

I know a lot of "older" folks don't get this, but in terms of the internet and social media, thats exactly what it means. And it holds a lot more power and influence than most are giving it credit for. It has to be labelled as an ad, but it really is just an endorsement post. Its not dirty by any means. Its exactly what tons of people on instagram and twitter do everyday already...for a living. They are just people who don't have NCAA restrictions.

I guess I'm old fashioned.

I assumed it was going to be guaranteed signings for cards and jerseys as a recruiting tool but I guess there are no cramps for sending out 1 tweet a month.

Everyone knew this was going to be the real problem.

Look for Louisville and Miami and UNC to shoot up the recruiting rankings.

For sure. I've been a firm believer that any substantial money is going to come through social media more so than physical autograph signings and stuff.

don't take advice from the governor of California. They were the first to pass the law and you're about to see the implosion of college athletics.

I read an interesting take on the NIL this morning. There is a theory that the NCAA wants everything to go to H$&l in a hand basket to expedite the creation of a federal law.

Oh boy...here we go! Tell me this is not a recruiting incentive! As usual, the NCAA screws it up by trying to hurriedly put this plan in place.

100% legit. College sports as we used to know them are long gone. Kids will follow the money more now and can be open about it by negotiating contracts etc.

This will have impacts to every major program including Clemson. The glory days of college football and other sports will be over. Kids will sit out, go to a certain school to get a great endorsement and really be a free agent.

It sucks that this free for all circus is happening. Great for the kid who wants to be an entrepreneurial college athlete and make money, but NO LOYALITY REQUIRED TO THE COLLEGE THEY ATTEND.

I will retell an analogy Coach K told about whether he thought the "One and done" aspect of star players leaving for the NBA was a good or bad thing.

He said, how is this any different than the student that has a full scholarship in music (piano) and then after year one, gets an offer to play in the The London Symphony Orchestra? They should leave and be rewarded for their talents, and by the way, they do leave and no one even talks about it. We only talk about it because it's basketball, which is simply a bigger and more visible sport/endeavor.

And by the way, those same students can earn money giving lessons and playing recitals, and again, no one even cares...

Seriously, how is it different?

Coach K's analogy doesn't work because college athletes aren't majoring in a sport, so them leaving early to play the sport for money isn't the same as the music major leaving for an opportunity in music.
