Dims say “problem? What problem?” Again

May 10, 2021, 8:50 AM

First the border fiasco ...

Now inflation ...

Yellen says there is no inflation

Even though every American can see it in their grocery bill and at the gas pump

Stick your heads in the sand ... maybe it will go away

Groceries and gas are excluded from the PCE

which the Fed uses to measure inflation. Right or wrong, that’s what they’ve always used. Educate yourself.

When Gas goes up... Everything else does too.

Ya I bet we will start to see some actual inflation

May 11, 2021, 8:36 AM

in the near future. But to say the Fed is dumb, because I know there is inflation since my gas and groceries are more expensive, is flawed thinking.

Pinhead government spreadsheet

Very sheepish to say

“Government told me there is mo inflation so there must not be any inflation”

I didn’t say there wasn’t inflation or I agree with the

way they calculate it. But you literally took the two major things that are excluded from what they use to calculate it and based your conclusion on those two things. Gas and groceries are going up, I’ve noticed it too, but that doesn’t mean there is actual inflation. There may be, or maybe there is not.

...and again, clemchem, a sensible, center-right party that was NOT anchored down to Donald Trump and racial politics would be uniquely positioned in the mid-terms and 2024 to take advantage of the Dems' weaknesses, which are myriad, manifest, and fairly self-evident.

They are not. Instead the Republicans are busy being the party of White Person Grievance, making themselves thoroughly repugnant to conservative minorities that might be inclined to cross the aisle and vote their wallets if the vote was about issues and not race and culture-war bullsh!t and angry white people going "this is OUR country, ##$^ you colored folk tryin' to take it all from us!" (like the amount of melanin in somebody's skin matters a sweet sh!t...America's getting browner...ooh, scary) and tying themselves to a populist sociopath who already tried to undo an election and democracy in America once and will undoubtedly do it again if he gets a chance and has a maybe sub-40% approval rating and is roundly feared and despised by the other 60%.

Mind, if the GOP goes the other way, jettisons the Donald, becomes inclusive, loses its fear of melanin (WhatDeEff is that, anyway, when did built-in tans get so scary?), and just concentrates on economic issues again and lets the Dems do the wanking about identity politics, the 'Pubs will wipe the floor with them when the bill for all this spending hits and inflation comes calling.

Until then, you're playing the game by the Dems rules, and all you'll do is lose.

What is the GOP actually doing, though? Voting out Liz Cheney today. Rock on.

Methinks you're unwittingly parroting another narrative,

May 11, 2021, 8:40 AM

that of the "fear of melanin" variety. That's exactly how the left would like to paint all of the right's grievances.

rationales behind demographics?

The left has been beating the drum for YEARS that the right simply HATES brown people. It's been some highly effective marketing for them. They also push the social programs that have decimated inner city African Americans and pushed them into their own Stockholm Syndrome scenario, programs that conservatives are against for reasons generally having zero to do with race.

To paint the resultant demographic splits as "fear of melanin" means you're doing the marketing for the left, or their marketing has been highly effective on you.

Re: A simplistic and highly biased assumption about

Pictures like the above kind of make that case for the Dems. Also pictures like all the Republicans in Donald Trump's Cabinet:

Or Donald Trump's White House staff...Kellyanne Conway couldn't even name a single black person on it. There's no longer a single black person in the House GOP now that Will Hurd retired. Tim Scott's the lone black Congressperson, period.

That isn't an inclusive party, or one that's done nearly a good enough job recruiting. That's a party of white patriarchy that's throwing out tokenism that's almost 1970's in its level of representation. No corporation in America would have been allowed that level of hiring practices; Trump's administration flaunted it. Openly.

What's your solution.....

May 11, 2021, 10:35 AM

Biden's protected class > skillset approach, where he openly says "I'll be focusing on (insert demographic) for this role" rather than "I'm looking for X experience and Y skillset" for this role?

There's a middle ground somewhere, and Biden is doing no better with it than Trump did.

Re: What's your solution.....

May 11, 2021, 12:06 PM

I don't know, but those two pictures above point to a HUGE problem the GOP's having. You play a straight demographics game, the math is pretty clear. You're going to lose about 1% of the vote a year. The GOP is getting older, grayer, and the Millennials and Gen Z freaking HATE the GOP. Women DO NOT LIKE the GOP. Minorities DO NOT LIKE the GOP and immigration increasingly comes from browner countries nowadays.

The GOP has to do a far better job of recruiting women candidates - there's still far too much simmering misogyny lurking in the party, sorry, there is - and has to do a better job of being conscious of at least not alienating minorities and doing a better job of recruiting and promoting minority candidates whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Right now the GOP is massively underwater with women, minorities, and young people, and that is an epic disaster for future elections that's only going to get worse. The GOP HAS to start re-framing the issues in purely economic terms because this Culture War stuff is going to get them destroyed. Nobody is more thrilled than Dem strategists that the GOP continues to latch onto Donald Trump. He's the gift that keeps right on giving, at this point, because he's better at mobilizing and uniting Democratic support even than he is his own.

Tired arguments. How many new GOP congresswomen are there?

Put your old head back in the sand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What's your solution.....

May 11, 2021, 1:16 PM

It's not a tired argument. It's a steady 1%-a-year-loss problem.

The GOP is literally bleeding to death on the demographics issue, and you're calling it a "tired argument."

The GOP's position is going to be 2% worse in 2022 than it was in 2020...and sorry, the GOP lost the 2020 election by seven million votes whether it wants to admit it or not. All those voter laws they're passing aren't much more than sandbags that aren't going to do diddly against shoring up the rising tide.

By 2024 the GOP's position will be 4% worse from a standing start, by 2028, 8% worse. Take a look at California's demographics, as multiple GOP pundits have pointed out, they were the canary in the coal mine. The GOP has essentially become a minority party in California politics.
