The enviro-kooks that pushed for the ban feel pretty good about themselves and that’s priceless.
With the authoritarian Left, results don’t matter if your heart is in the right place.

Re: If one turtle is saved it is worth it

A few years back a save the planet group in the Northwest rescued a little seal and nursed it back to health. The day came when the seal was ready to be released back into the wild, with great fanfare the group had a big media event and after much hugging and crying the group released the seal. The seal was on his merry way heading out to sea, when a giant killer whale erupted beneath the seal, tossed it into the air and finished it in one gulp. End of story.

Well a whale ate. That's nature. I am a carnivore too. It would have been worse had the seal died from human plastic being digested.

If these turtles were worth saving, they would not eat balloons to begin with. This is just another example of nature running its course and it is not our place to interfere.

I hate it when I get shamed for asking for a straw at a restaurant. Every time I get an eye roll from a snowflake for asking for a straw, I sarcastically ask them if they drink bottled water. Bottled water is the biggest landfill filler of them all.

We need to bring the balloons back to Death Valley. They don't call it Death Valley for nothing !!

Go Tigers !!!

Can we all plant a tree and bring back the balloons? No correlation but it would make us all feel better when we let them go.

Re: Straws

Jan 19, 2020, 10:01 PM [ in reply to Re: Meanwhile, in South America.. ]

You can always tell them that you’ll be glad to use a biodegradable paper straw if they invest in them.

They’re more expensive, so they don’t.

Besides, as a former dishwasher, I can tell you that you don’t want to taste someone else’s greasy lip smudges on your drinking glass. Use straws or go to restaurants that hand clean their glassware.

Our restaurant used plastic cups like a steakhouse, so you could not see the smudges, but they don’t always come off from jets of water alone. The smudges might be sterilized if the machine is always running up to specs, but those “might”s and “if”s cannot be guaranteed. My machine was constantly down for maintenance. Hand wiping the rims of cups was always preferred.

They should go after the Asians. Something like 90% of ocean littering comes from 4 Asians country. They’d made a much bigger impact trying to stop them.
