New Story: Orange and White: Halftime Observations

Orange and White: Halftime Observations

Clemson’s spring game is underway in Death Valley under sunny skies and with a chilly wind with the Orange leading the White 14-9. We have some quick observations from the field.

Quarterbacks

Other than running ability, there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of separation between Nick Schuessler and Kelly Bryant, other than Bryant’s ability to run the football. Both have had their good moments and their bad moments – both have a tendency to hold on to the ball too long – but Schuessler might have an edge in the passing game.

Turnovers have been the difference between the two quarterbacks. Bryant has thrown two interceptions - the first by Marcus Edmond and the second by Ryan Carter.

Were we watching the same 1st half David?!? Schuessler has looked miles better than Bryant in the 1st half especially when it came to throwing the ball!

im interested to

See how Tucker Israel does. Honestly Bryant won't show his strength is this type of scrimmage. I think TyDye has looked pretty good and think he is behind Choice right now. TT has looked good at WR which is good. Was hoping to see some more from the TE group besides Leggett but not much that has wowed me.

Def looks good. Especially Bryant, and Ferrell. Boulware still playing good and Edmundson looked pretty good earlier in the game

2 things:

1.) Kelly Bryant isn't set up to succeed in this type of scrimmage situation based on his skill set.

2.) I'm terrified that special teams is going to ruin another otherwise great team.

Me too.

Making the NC playoff game in 2015 was complete total disaster.

I mean, maybe you are different...

but it would have been nice to win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, special teams still a problem! Still think a special

teams coach successful elsewhere needs to be hires and hope that better kickers can be recruited! Dabo has been saying for over two years, "not to worry" that he would take care of special teams - hasn't happened????

I agree. To be such a greatly skilled team our KO coverage and return set ups have got to be better. AS had some nice plays but we need blocking and we really need to learn how to defend a KO that isn't kicked into the corner because our kickers struggle at getting it there and Bama showed it doesn't matter if we do kick it to the side. KO coverage is a worry for me

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kickoffs and coverage are huge issues still

Apr 10, 2016, 9:24 AM

They'll be looking for a walk on kickoff specialist over the summer. Whether they find one remains to be seen

What I saw...

Apr 9, 2016, 6:08 PM

Agree, Choice is the best option at #2 back.

Good showing by the defense.

We still don't have a KO guy (punters look bad too)

Wide outs ALL looked good.

NO CLEAR CUT NUMBER 2 guy at QB, get Cooper ready!
