...the 3 times the debt ceiling was raised when DADDY was in office? I remember them fighting hard when Obama was in office, but were awfully quiet from 2017-2021.

You are simply wrong. We've spent the money. Now we have to pay the bill.
Your logic is akin to using your credit card for all of your expenses, getting the bill in the mail, and then saying "we can't spend that much."
The budget process is when the spending decisions are made.

Willful ignorance. Goods and services have already been provided with a credit card. That money has been spent.
Future spending can be reduced even if it is in the budget. Individuals and businesses have to do this every day and well as public entities that are required to do so.
Do you really believe that Federal spending reductions can not be made?

I'm told there's enough $$$ to continue paying the principle and interest on the debt, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and defense spending. We need to see the balance sheets see what is being prioritized without a debt ceiling increase.
My understanding is that all of the talk of defaulting on the USD and not funding safety nets are scare tactics.
I think it's akin to the wife wanting to take out a new credit card, husband saying no. Wife says, well if we don't, then we won't be able to pay our current credit cards or buy groceries... when in fact, there's enough money to pay the credit card bills (if spending is stopped) and buy groceries, just not enough for starbucks or vacations or expensive toilet paper.
We aren't going to solve the problem in here, either way. I suspect if we don't increase the debt limit the sky won't fall...

The biggest risk, IMHO, is that defaulting will send interest rates up. The whole debt ceiling debate undermines confidence in the dollar in the first place. But I suspect the GOP wants to do that so they can attempt to point the finger at Biden and say "see what he did to the economy." It's the "let's make him a failed president" logic. Who cares about the health of the country if we can get ourselves back in power?

I am LOLing so hard at your pathetic attempt to avoid saying that the GOP debt limit fights (which only happen when a Dem is in the WH) is 100% political. If you guys really cared, you would fight for like this EVERY time the debt ceiling issue comes up. When a Pub is in the WH, you guys go sit in the corner and #### while the limit is raised. 😆.
I'm in favor of a balanced budget along with policies making sure everyone is paying into the system. That involves both spending and revenue. You can't do it one way only, and you can't have loopholes which allow people/entities to game the system.
Again, LOL at that PATHETIC reason for raising the debt ceiling 3 times with no resistance while "the businessman" was racking up record debt and you were justifying it.

I do fight like this every time.
I’m no fan of Mitch McConnell & Schumer and their good ole boy system where they create this spectacle of differences and then go behind closed doors and feast together in pork barrel spending while the hard working us citizens get the screw job.
And yeah, Trump was wrong for signing it. Absolutely, and there are a bunch of folks blind to that. Just as there are a bunch of folks blind to the good things he did.
It was wrong to raise it then and it’s wrong to raise it now.
My point is just that it was not totally dumb (still really dumb) compared to now when raising the debt limit is completely and totally beyond the pale dumb.

Hold on, US inflation is down to 4.93%, down from 8.26% last year. This isn't even the highest inflation the country has seen in a year. It was higher in 1990.
While European inflation was was 8.5% a year ago, it's only down to 6.9% now.
The UK's inflation rate is 6.2% but is actually going up.

That our economy is being hit far less badly is an indication of how comparatively well we're doing.

You are right, some people are against it just because it’s Biden.
But in reality, it doesn’t matter who the president is when you have out of control inflation, and you want to raise the debt ceiling - its dumb
So it it were trump it would be dumb
If it were Reagan it would be dumb
If it were George freaking Washington it would be dumb
Now, I believe you can take the “never trump” glasses off long enough to admit that this is dumb regardless of who the president is.
Whether people did or didn’t fight against the debt limit in the past doesn’t make it less crappy for the future of this country.

Would always be discussing. Their stance on illegal immigration is similar in that they pretend to care when they arent in power and then ignore it when they are. This is referencing primarily DC Republicans as the ones in states being destroyed do actually care. These are big reasons Republicans are so open to someone from outside the political ruling class. Their party has long ago sold them out.
