weedeaternet - wat do Jounge
Apr 18, 2022, 10:29 AM

So when I moved into my house about years ago, I haven't had to weedeat since no fence and no edging (not the sechsual kind, there's been plenty of that). So last fall we decided to put stones down to outline the bedding. Now the grass done grown up and I needs to trim that. Not a hole lot, just an easy ~70 feet.
Anyhoo, pulled out the old weedeater thinking it was fuckt since not cranked in 6 years. Well your old boy tickle_it for juance did something smart (or luckky) and took all the gas out (or ran out on the last job) before storing it. I added a little gas and tugged on the choke cord (I'm good at that) and got that sumbich to crank. Will run fine as long as it's idling, but when you throttle it, it runs for a second or 2 then dies. Maybe it needs more gas, since I only gave it about 1/4 tank. Or maybe it's fuckt. Any 2cycle engine assperts in hear?
I could easily go get a craftsman electric that would fit my other batteries I got for hedtrimmers and chainsaw. It's only like $100 and I'm slowly working on having all their entire 20V collection.

Primary reason I went to electric and never looked back. Tired of every other year carb repairs.

Especially if you used ethanol laced gas mixed with oil last time.
If so, its fscked.
But it cranks, so it sound like you have a chance.

My gas powered weed eater brand cheapest gas trimmer that Walmart sold back in 2009 still works like a champ. Only used self mixed ethanol laced gas. Amazing how some cheap things will last forever and things that are higher end seem to die quickly.

Check the choke.

If it's idling fine and bogging down when you give it gas, sounds like the choke is open. Close it and see if that fixes it. And if you don't know how to choke it, go to Lowes and buy an electric one that don't need no choking.

It's juan of those stupid ones that when you throttle it, it automatically takes the choke completely off. Tanks Ryobi.

The gradually give it more and more gas.
Protip: the premix gas you get at Lowe's/Walmart/HD is the way to go for 2 cycle engines

After 6 years, turns into varnish
Spray some carb cleaner in the carb and let it sit half a day. Then try starting.

carb cleaner. Not that carp you spray out of a can. You'll need a gal of the old school. It comes in a metal can and has a small bucket inside to put your carb in and sink it in the solution. 24 hrs soak them shoot it off with water and blow off the moisture and reassemble and install.
Something has stopped up the tiny passages, prob amber from fuel residue. Next time buy non ethanol gas.
