Marty has been covering us a ton the past few years for ESPN. He loves us and has done multiple nice documentary segrments concerning Clemson and some of our players. U really never heard of him?

Uh, actually, no. After retiring three years ago, I joined iptay and have been going to the games, so I haven't watched many on tv - and very few on espn, now that I think of it. Also don't watch a lot of the espn talk, selection, or 'analysis' shows, either.
MOSTly I'll listen to XM84 college sports on the radio when travelling, and then usually only/prefer Mark Packer.
Otherwise, I'm here following the 'conversations' of fellow Tigers...
...looks like I need to keep an ear out for Marty Smith.
Thanks!

If you watched the playoff selection show, he was the ESPN correspondent broadcasting live from Clemson's campus. He's a good dude imo, I've always liked him.

I'm just glad we're the underdogs. I hate being on "upset alert".

Let me tell you a few things about Marty Smith you might not know.
Marty is a good ol' country boy from Giles county, Virginia, and was raised about 25 miles from VT's campus. He grew up going to VT games with his Dad, which he now says were the best moments he got to spend with him. He was and still is a Hokie at heart.
But you guys are right. He is one of the "good guys" at ESPN or any other outlet, and you can tell from his pieces that I am not lying about him being just a good ol' boy from the sticks. To ESPN's credit, they realized that country doesn't mean dumb. Marty is far from that.
I think his affinity for Clemson stems from the fact that like Blacksburg, Clemson is a smallish town consumed by the university that resides within its borders. The entire community is wrapped around the university and there is a pride and bond that I don't believe exists at universities in larger cities. I'm not surprised at all that he is a closet Clemson fan. It makes sense knowing his personality and personal history.
