I'm pulling for FSU to win out after further thought.

Oct 31, 2012, 9:32 AM

It's is my opinion that playing in the Sugar Bowl and beating a third SEC School in one year says more in the long run of 2012 and heading into 2013. The perception is sold by the media and nothing will take their bias ammo like 3 Ws against their own set table. An ACC Title and a BCS Big Least victory will not cut through the B$ like a 3 W facial. FSU losing doesn't honestly take our lose to them while growing up in Tally away. Funny how we're staring at this, the most ideal situation outside of going undefeated period.

Do It Dabo & Go Tigers!!!

So you don't want to win the ACC again?

Don't fall into the national hype. Either way, if we take care of our business, we will be in good shape!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Win the ACC? You people don't get it. Nobody "wins" the ACC.

Oct 31, 2012, 9:42 AM

It's the laughing stock of the College Football World. Don't forget that just three weaks ago, the ACC was passed in the power ranking by...Yeah, the BIG EAST.

NOBODY "WINS" THE ACC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For the record, we have overtaken the Big East again, and

Oct 31, 2012, 9:45 AM

should overtake the Big 10 to settle in comfortably and waaaaaaaaaaay behind the Big 3, or as I like to call them, the conferences ESPN pays attention to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are right. We have taken back over the...

Oct 31, 2012, 9:53 AM

"2nd to last" spot in the college football world.

And we CAN possible pass the BIG10. But that's NOT going to happen if we don't finish with two teams in the top ten.

Listen, we had our chance with FSU. We lost. Oh well.

If we win out, I sure as hell hope FSU does as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Believe me, OMan, lol, I wasn't trying to brag about it!

Oct 31, 2012, 9:59 AM

I like the ACC, the teams in it, but it sucks so many of them just aren't very good. I would love to see 4 on each side just be excellent, competitive programs. Every conference is always going to have those 3 or 4 sucky teams. It just is what it is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not this year.

Oct 31, 2012, 9:57 AM [ in reply to Re: I'm pulling for FSU to win out after further thought. ]

Like was just stated it's about proving perception wrong and that goes for FSU as well. In addition that ND move looks like a good deal now, huh? And I bet Miami has something to contribute toward strengthening this league in the near future. Waiting to see if VT bounces back or which other school steps up as the ACC moves forward.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Many folks here are going to flame you for this. Some seem

Oct 31, 2012, 9:41 AM

to think that winning the ACC is the most important thing. I don't. Sure, winning the ACC is a goal and would be great...but things have changed. The cards have been dealt and the overall goal over the next 5 years needs to be improving the image of the ACC.

In my opinion, the best way to start repairing the ACC is for FSU to win out and beat the crap out of the Big Least winner AND for Clemson to win out and beat an SEC team in a bowl game. That would be 3 wins over the SEC and the ACC would end the year with two teams in the top ten.

This would be the best case scenario in my opinion. However, I wouldn't be upset if FSU loses to VT and Clemson plays for the Orange Bowl.

Taking down quality, RANKED opponents

is the pathway to the promised land. With a couple of exceptions, we are handicapped playing who we play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I say whatever. We actually schedule 2 SEC Schools a year

Oct 31, 2012, 9:51 AM

& have picked up teams like TCU (Bamma)for quick fixes recently, due to droped games. Dabo wants to play the best and we can only make the out of conference game choices while being in the ACC. So, whoever talks that Clemson plays in the ACC needs to look at what we attempt to do outside of that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed

Our OOC games are our best shot.

If FSU loses and we win out we go to the bcs and the SOS doesn't matter But we could win out and not go if fsu wins out!!! Some of you people need to think about what you're wishing for.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep and as much as it pains me to say I've now found myself

Oct 31, 2012, 9:47 AM [ in reply to Many folks here are going to flame you for this. Some seem ]

hoping for ND to win. Which is obviously manufactured by the fact that they have 6 opportunities to lose to ACC Schools.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The unfortunate truth is

Oct 31, 2012, 9:50 AM

the SEC-driven beauty contest is squeezing out lesser conferences. It seems to be about conference now rather than team. How long was Boise St. unsung? Despite all of their success they never got a shot.

I see your point, but let's just tee it up and do our part of winning out and play, and beat, whomever the cards deal us. If we take care of our business there are no bad endings for us.

delusions of grandeur, and the media will just say that they are an "SEC" school in a conference of wannabees.

I want FSU to lose to VT and us to win out all the way through the Orange Bowl. That gets us the highest ranking possible.

A 2 loss FSU and and a 1 loss CU beating Florida and USuCk will help the ACC standings. A GT victory over UGA would be icing on the cake. That being said a second BCS birth and playing in the Sugar would be pretty sweet.

Re: Disagree...FSU winning out would just perpetuate their

Oct 31, 2012, 9:57 AM

Disagree. Beating Georgia, LSU or Florida in the Sugar Bowl would get us a higher ranking than beating a Big East team.

The SEC bias would, for once, working our favor in that scenario.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nah. We lost in Tally rebuilding. We didn't lose to NCST.

Oct 31, 2012, 10:02 AM [ in reply to Disagree...FSU winning out would just perpetuate their ]

And it's our job to beat those on our schedule every year.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this seems confused to me

Oct 31, 2012, 10:13 AM [ in reply to Disagree...FSU winning out would just perpetuate their ]

How do you change the perception that there aren't any top caliber teams in the ACC if only one of them is going to win 10-12 games a year? FSU surely is delusional, but unless they're good we're not going to the MNC because Maryland, BC and Wake can't be expected to be consistently good. Now, of course I want FSU to be good every week except the week we play them, but we've already lost to them this year. Them losing again doesn't improve the perception of our loss to them, and therefore wouldn't help us at all in the rankings.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess if our aim is to improve the perception of the ACC

Oct 31, 2012, 10:33 AM [ in reply to this seems confused to me ]

then it may make a little more sense to pull for FSU not to lose. However winning the ACC is in the best interest of Clemson. The perception of the ACC now is that there are 4 football schools (CU, FSU, VT and GT) with 3 being SEC caliber that won't change until some of the other schools MD, BC, Wake, NC St start consistently winning.

Beating an undefeated Louisville team in the Orange Bowl would be vindication for last year. Also, I think beating an unbeaten and higher ranked Louisville would be better than beating a two loss UGA.

I'd take any scenario that includes us winning out through our bowl...whether it is the Orange or Sugar.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you left out Miami

Oct 31, 2012, 10:44 AM

but my thing is that winning the ACC won't matter if the perception of the ACC isn't improved. What's in the best interest of Clemson is winning as many games as possible and ending up with the best rank possible. If the only thing that mattered was winning the ACC, then we ought to hope that all other ACC teams would lose every game they play. That would ensure an ACCC, but it would also make it meaningless and prevent Clemson from every having a chance at a MNC.

I suppose my real argument is that if we want the highest ranking at the end of the year, it would be better for FSU (and all the other teams we play) to win out. That sets us up better for a MNC run next year, as the perception of the other ACC teams would improve for next year as well.

Re: this seems confused to me

Nov 1, 2012, 8:13 AM [ in reply to this seems confused to me ]

Totally agree! There winning out says we lost to a great team, and it helps our SOS in the long run, I would imagine. TU!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I disagree, but it doesn't matter. We both agree that

Oct 31, 2012, 9:54 AM

11-1 and a BCS bowl of some kind would be a dream season. I hope we can pull it off. One more road test this weekend and then three games in the comfy confines of Death Valley. I feel confident about Maryland but NCSU and South Carolina both cleaned our clocks last year.

Re: I'm pulling for FSU to win out after further thought.

Oct 31, 2012, 10:11 AM

The focus for this and every Clemson team that follows should be to win the next game in front of them. That begins with Duke this weekend.

I see the FSU "win out" logic and the future possibility of playing in a BCS game against a stronger opponent. In theory, I don't disagree.

However, a lot on this board felt "cheated" last year when the BCS bowl parings rolled out Va Tech and Michigan in the Sugar Bowl. They followed up that loss with a 4-4 record so far this year.

My point is...you have to win on a consistent basis to be a contender. If you filter out all the Spurrier-Dabo hype from yesterday, one can see that consistency was the theme of Dabo's Tuesday press conference.

Bottom line.."one game at time" and "just win baby"!

Go Tigers.

What makes you think the 2nd in "the weak ACC" gets in?

Oct 31, 2012, 10:57 AM

Its funny, all the reasons that folks think it would be better to get an at-large are the same reasons why it would be hard to actually get an at-large bid.

How would an 11-1 Clemson team NOT get in? ******

Very easy and any number of different ways

Oct 31, 2012, 11:48 AM

There are only 10 slots with 6 automatic bids.

The SEC will get an at-large.
ND is almost assuredly in.
If either the PAC 12 or Big 12 get 2 we are screwed.
Boise State is sitting pretty for getting an at-large if they can get up to 16 and stay ahead of Nebraska or a team below them wins a AQ conference. They could easily steal an at-large.

We almost have to have the status quo hold with everyone else until the end of the season to have a legit shot at an at-large.

Do you think we would jump a 1 loss ND, UF, UGA, Oregon, or K-State?

If you want the ACC to be relevant again....

Oct 31, 2012, 1:14 PM

1. Win the title and

2. Beat the snot out of the Orange Bowl foe.

I would rather see Clemson be the standard bearer for returning the ACC to whatever football prestiege it can muster than FSU.

If the Noles sweep (and they dang sure better beat Florida if that's the case) then I tip my hat to them and we go one and whip whoever we face in the Sugar.

That said, I want Clemson to be the champions, and clean up the mess we left behind in Miami.
