Has Boehner caved yet? I know it is just a matter of time.

Dec 15, 2012, 6:13 AM

He is always out negotiated on these things so why do I keep expecting a different outcome? ..... Yep, you'd have to be if you believe this is going to end well for the country.

I hope we go full speed over the fiscal cliff personally. The people spoke with their vote. Let them get a full helping of it and see how they like it.

my thoughts exactly. Give them everything they want. If they say they need to spend 10 trillion this year and borrow 12 trillion from China, do it. Tax the rich so that no one in the country can make over 3 million a year. Every dime over 3 million goes straight to the federal govt. If you make 250,000 to 3 million in income and WEALTH, that should be taxed at 50%. If you make less than 250,000 a year, you npay nothing. Just like all the jobs that have left the nation, soon all the money will leave also. Sit back and watch the ride.
I can not wait to have to give China all the rights to our oil reservers in the Gulf to help pay down the dept we owe them.

98% of the rest of us have to pay Clinton-era tax rates on the portion of their incomes over 250,000 dollars. And we all remember how good the economy was after those tax breaks from 2001 t0 2009. The "job creators" just couldn't be stopped. Imagine how much better the economy would have been if we'd only found a third country to invade under what Republicans consider a "stimulus plan."

occurred while we were in two wars, and during an 8 year period when the number of jobs at the end was actually less than it was at the beginning? Wow. Good to know where Republican voters are on all this. Are you going to have Baghdad Bob pop up on the thread somewhere to let us know that Saddam Hussein is still in control of Iraq? Oh, by the way, during the Clinton period before the Dubya period, 24 million jobs got added, which on a back-of-the-napkin bit of figuring is 24 million more than got created after Dubya managed to wreck what had been a great economy. I'm sure, though, that Dubya takes great pride in knowing that he was presiding over an even greater "peacetime" recovery than occurred when the previous guy was wracking up the best job gains in history.

Re: Man, seriously? The "greatest peacetime recovery in history"

Dec 15, 2012, 10:17 AM [ in reply to Man, seriously? The "greatest peacetime recovery in history" ]

Clinton had nothing to do with the economy doing what it did while he was in office. The economic boom we experienced came about because of a vast emerging and unregulated market called the internet. After the bubble burst, right before Bush took office, we were headed in a downward spiral. Things immediately got better when Bush took office. After 911 we took one of the biggest single day hits to the stock market ever. Again the recovery was fast. The current economic situation can not be linked to one single cause but a number of situations that arose. The sub-prime market was created due to Dems like Frank and Dodd pushing for more loans to minorities meaning the standards of credit worthiness were lowered creating a market in which almost anyone with a job could buy a house. When gas prices got above $4 many peoples budgets were shot out of the water and some jobs were lost. As the number of foreclosures rose homes were losing value causing more people to default on mortgages and over and over again until you get to the collapse we all witnessed. Could Bush have acted more decisively and somewhat thwarted the disaster? Who knows. But there were many warning of the dangers of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the 6 mos leading up to the collapse.

Dec 15, 2012, 10:24 AM

things didn't get better immediately when Bush took office, they got worse economically. You right wingers act as if the Bush years never happened. Keep on living in a delusion and believe what Fox News tells you. The fact is Fox News watchers are the most misinformed people in the country.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Gas prices went up under Bush….

Dec 15, 2012, 12:36 PM

Haha that distinction belongs to MSNBC viewers. I know gas prices went up under Bush, I addressed that. It is a fact that under Bush after 911 the economy grew at a record pace. I am not saying Bush was 100% responsible for the recovery after taking over. Just like Obama is not responsible for the slight recovery now. It's funny you people always jump on your Fox soapbox when I rarely watch Fox News. I do not take my news from any one source. I read some USA Today NY Times AP BBC I also browse through the cable news networks and the regular networks. You on the other hand I would bet almost exclusively read Huff Post Move=on and MSNBC.

The problem is that with going back to that rate. We are spending at a larger rate now and they will not go back to that rate. Do not try that bs here. They have said that they are willing to go back to both but the Dems will not go back to both rates.

Tax the rich so we can generate enough revenue to pay off 7% of the current deficit, where is the other 93% going to come from? Don't let facts get in the way of liberal talking points. During the clinton years the government spent 1.3-1.4 trillion dollars, we now spend over 3 trillion a year. Our deficit is the same amount the government spent in the 90's.

Dec 15, 2012, 10:34 AM

Obama won handily in the election, and Dems increased their numbers in the Senate and House. If no deal is struck, taxes go up for everyone, which is something that those on the left have openly said they wouldn't mind all that much.

Boehner really doesn't have any leverage.

The fiscal cliff is something that was birthed during the Debt Ceiling debate in 2011. Pubs signed off on it at the time. So did Dems. No one liked the idea. But it's how we got here.

I wish Boehner had more to work with here. But he doesn't.

Re: Has Boehner caved yet? I know it is just a matter of time.

Dec 15, 2012, 10:57 AM

Here is proof for you left wing loonies. I have lots of family members in England. No they are not millionaires but are still effected.

Why isn’t the House Speaker (and his lieutenants) in the media, day and night, pointing out that the UK tried Obama's exact idea of a “Millionaires Tax” only a year ago and it proved a disaster. Two thirds of the millionaires in UK disappeared in one year -- from 16,000 to 6,000. Either they moved to other countries with their money, or they slowed down and stopped working so hard.

Result? Tax revenues PLUNGED, instead of increased. Two years ago British millionaires contributed 9% of all taxes. After the special tax on “the rich” passed, this same group produced 4.4% of all taxes. In other words the UK politicians damaged their economy, and proved that revenues go down with the same “Millionaires Tax” that Obama now demands.
