Mrs. Spoon. She is a nurse who worked for years saving lives in the ER, often in the pediatric wing. Today she'll be coming home from the hospital for a different reason. This time it's because she saved her sister's life, by giving her one of her kidneys.

I never knew what an ordeal being an organ donor is. She will be recovering over the next several weeks.

She is a real life superhero.

And, as an added bonus, imagine having that leg up on your sibling for the rest of your lives? Any time there's an argument or disagreement, and it looks like you might be headed towards an L, you simply put your index finger to your lips and "shhhhh", and point to your remaining kidney with the other index finger.

what a sacrifice that is.

Good for her!

Did she have to have the "old school" large opening across her abdomen?

All my best to her and I hope she has a smooth recovery. She's a nurse, so I'm sure she knows better than me...but my advice is don't try to be a hero with the pain. Stay ahead of it for about a week with the good pain meds!

Wow, so you definitely know. And no, she got the new-school set of tiny incisions. I'm not quite sure how it all works, but hearing the full description might make me pass out.

Thank you, I will take your advice to heart. She actually said that her only fear is that she'll be "stupid" by not taking enough pain meds and thinking she can power through it. I'll keep her hopped up on the goofballs.

Yeah, I think the small incisions are much preferable...

the tumor/growth on mine was too large to get it out that way, so I had to have the old school. I don't recommend.

A big tip of the cap to her, and please let her know it gets

Better.

I still remember waking up in that tub of ice 20 years ago, reading the note that told me my kidneys had been stolen. I had no idea I’d be such a healthy example of a man here in 2021.

She is amazing for doing what she has. I gave my brother one back in 2003. COVID almost got him few months back though, did a number on the kidney too. But, doctors still think there is a chance it will functioning normally again over time.

I have had no problems - she will not have any problems! :)

Happy for her and her sister.
