Mack Anglin

Apr 24, 2021, 8:08 AM

Watching him pitch last night, and I gotta say, he looks like the real deal. He’s 19 and hitting 95 mph with a wipeout slider. Gonna be fun watching him play in coming years. If we can get sharpe healthy enough to pitch I like our rotation of sharpe, askew, and anglin. I really hope the tigers show us some fight and put together a run to finish the season.

Anglin has done really well.
But if the Tigers don’t get better and more consistent at hitting, they could have Gerrit Cole on the mound, and it won’t matter. Can’t win games if you don’t score. This has been a problem for a while.

He does have a mean slider. A little more developed on the offspeed and I'd let him call his own game too. Wish he'd been starting all year. Got to get more consistent on keeping the FB down.

he's gotten hit hard

once or twice if I recall. College hitters can catch up to 95 mph now. they probably see that in HS ball, and i know they definitely see it in travel ball. so if I were him I would look at getting some more life on my fastball instead of getting an extra mph or 2. prime example, olenchuk got absolutely drilled against good teams. yeah he can throw hard, but his fastball was very flat.

If his FB has good movement he won't need the extra mph. Do they still teach the "cut" fastball?

the cut fastball

is still used a lot. not sure about the college level but I know a ton of MLB guys who throw it. but yeah a cutter or a sinker in his arsenal would be nasty.

I want to say the radio broadcast has talked about a couple kids that had a cut FB that tied us in knots.

Ty's got potential to really develop but he needs the movement. Good once or twice through lineup in midweek or bottom acc teams
