That’s a horrible thing for this young man to have to live with the rest of his life. If he is telling the truth I hope the media leaves him, LSU, and his family alone

Both parties had a gun...

How do we know who really pulled out first.

It very well could have been Kobe Johnson, but we'll never know his side of the story now.

What a shame.

agreed, I won’t judge bc don’t know what happened but it is

Terrible! And in the event he is completely justified, still living with that would be tough.

Really? Come on. It doesn't make any sense for the guy selling stuff to have gone out of his way to randomly murder somebody?

Tragedy is when innocent people die. Armed robbers getting shot do not rate as tragedies in my book.

Questions

Dec 24, 2018, 7:37 AM

Why were the LSU players in that particular spot?
Where did the items come from? Selling stolen items? Drug deal?
Why would you sell something like that and feel the need to bring your own gun?
Who in college carries a gun? {SEC it seems}
Something seems off by this.
If I were selling something - I would surely pick a safe location.

yeah, something aint right here. Something doesn't add up. sounds like a drug deal gone bad, quite honestly.

Louisiana has a very high crime rate

Dec 24, 2018, 9:01 AM [ in reply to Questions ]

Murder per capita is higher than any other state. Carrying a gun there is not uncommon and potentially for good reason.

"Who in college carries a gun?"

Why should college be any different than outside of college? College is to prepare you for the real world. A lot of TNetters carry all the time - according to this thread - even appendix carry when the are having the $ex (which seems dangerous to me).

1)you haven't sold anything on Craig's list, have you? People meet at locations to transact business. The trick is to try to pick some place where you aren't likely to be robbed. 2)it was an "electronic item." My guess would be an Android or Iphone that still had some use, but not enough value to trade for the upgrade. 3)You bring your own gun because this is America, where your chances of getting shot by some redneck cracker while transacting business is roughly a million times higher than it is any place else on the face of the earth 4)one of my friends at college shared a house with 3 other kids and had guns, loaded, pretty much everywhere. I would pick up a magazine from the coffee table and there'd be a Ruger underneath. It's the world we live in.

“Who carries a gun in college?”

I sure did... after I turned 21 and got my CWP. Honestly wish I could have carried on campus, it was the most unsafe I ever felt while attending Clemson.

Particularly a class I took in Tillman Auditorium. Only a few entrances into the auditorium all at the bottom, it was a class of 700 sitting ducks. If there ever was an active shooter you’re only escape would be running straight towards them. Hate to think that way but it’s a crazy world we live in.

Re: Questions

Its a human right to bear arms, as enshrined in our constitution.

There is nothing suspicious about carrying a firearm. It is not wrong, nor a crime. Likewise, the SCOTUS (In the Terry and Heller cases) determined that being armed does jot necessarily make someone dangerous, and that it is incorrect to assume that simply being armed makes you a threat. Just because you carry a firearm, does not mean you are a threat to anyone.

Self defense is justified, and anytime someone threatens your lufe by taking a physical action against you (brandishing a gun at you), you have the right to defend yourself with lethal force.

If you read the article, youll see these LSU players were selling their property, likely vis craigslist or facebook. Whenever you agree to do business over the internet, you are always at risk of being robbed. It happens, carry protection.

Why would you assume drugs? It says they were selling their own property.

Likewise, if you read it, youll see they followed proper protocol. They defended themselves, they stopped when the threat was neutralized, they stayed at the scene and called police, and they appropriately surrendered to police and complied.

"Who in college carries a gun"
A LOT of people. Over half of the kids I knew at Clemson owned some type of firearm and kept it with them in their car or at their apartment.

Why are you judging? It seems like a cut and dry self defense situation. Granted, there will be more details uncovered, but this sounds pretty cut and dry self defense based on what we know.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

why would you sell electronics to someone

Dec 24, 2018, 11:09 AM

And ask them to get in the back seat of a car? Especially when you believe you need a gun to peotect yourself against this person. He had to have the gun ready to kill the person in the back seat because its not easy to pull a gun on someone during a robbery

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

According to this article, the players called 911 and waited

Dec 24, 2018, 10:51 AM [ in reply to Questions ]

for the police to arrive. It says they were questioned and not charges. I understand your skepticism but that doesn’t sound like a drug deal gone bad to me. Sounds like they made a poor choice in trying to sell some stuff.

Everyone . .before we feel sorry for the LSU players . . Why are two LSU players, in a bad part of town trying to sell an "electronic device" ? and have a gun with them? I have a CC . .but something seems a little fishy here and not many of you are thinking about this as it should be done.
