LSU isn't much better, if at all, than Alabama

Jan 3, 2020, 3:45 PM

Just watched the LSU vs Bama game and here are my observations:

Bama shot them selves in the foot often. Bama's first drive ended inside the 10 yard line after Tua freakishly fumbled the ball. Bama also had a punt snap sail over the punters head which led to 3 points for LSU. Tua had a VERY bad interception right before the half that also led to 7 points for LSU. Bama's LB's were also out of position A LOT. I do not expect that to happen to us.

LSU sets up pick pass plays for big gains. Their receivers can make big catches in 1v1 coverage though. Their offense absolutely can be had with quality defensive play. Alabama was able to get pressure with disguised blitzes but did not always take good angles to get there resulting in Burrow scrambles.

Trevor is going to have another huge day on the ground vs their defense. LSU's DB's seem to give up on plays and are not as near physical as OSU's DBs were. Ross and Higgins are going to have a BIG day.

Bama's receivers had no trouble creating separation against LSU's DBs.

Burrow will scramble, and I can guarantee you our guys will hit him A LOT harder than Bama did.

Burrow WILL make mistakes when pressured. He isn't as careful with the ball as Trevor Lawrence.

LSU doesn't have much depth on defense. They will start wearing down in the 2nd half. If the game is close at the end of the 3rd i'd suspect that our offense will pull away in the 4th.

It's amazing that Alabama only lost that game by 5 considering how many mistakes they made and Tua coming off an injury. I feel a lot better about this game after seeing how they performed against the best team on their schedule.

LSU makes up for their lack of depth by having 247 injury timeouts! Some teams man up and play big boy football and some don’t,

Lotta SEC timeouts in that 2012 chickfila bowl

Great analysis. Can someone (more astute than me!) do a similar analysis of the Auburn game?

Jan 3, 2020, 4:04 PM

LSU had Auburn AT HOME and only won by three (3!!) points!

Actually, the Auburn defense is similar to ours. They played a 4 - 2 - 5 with a lot of press man underneath. This helped limit the short passes mentioned above. The inverted Tampa two that we switched to in the OSU game can allow us to press their receivers as well.

Their front four is very stout, but they had to blitz to get pressure on Little Joe. Our blitzes can get home but only if we really fool them. if Little Joe sees them coming, the short throws will negate the blitz.

The only reason Auburn didn't beat LSU was that their offense was so conservative and predictable.

I suggest you go back and watch this game. It and the Bama game are the most illuminating as far as LSU goes. Also Top Billing did a good, short breakdown of this game.

Thanks, Tobias! Great analysis again! I will go back and watch Auburn at LSU game.***

We don’t seem to play much press man, or at least not in more critical

Situations - maybe my memory is biased, but I found myself griping about that as OSU kept carving 8-10 yard quick passes against soft coverage, particularly in that last drive

LSU is the most overrated SEC team in the last decade.

And 2nd place is not even close.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

For the amount if hype they are generating

I'd have to agree with you. Vegas is going to make a lot of money on this game unless some big late bets come in on clemson. I dont see how we lose this game unless we have several turnovers

Can’t wait for LSU homers to come in and educate us on how the Alabama game wasn’t really that close at all, and that they are going to kill us.

watch The LSU ole miss game too

Jan 4, 2020, 11:11 AM

A really sorry ole miss team sacked burro, picked him off and the Qb ran wild on them. If they didn’t just give up Td’s on some very ordinary plays by LSU, they could have won.
