Is this year’s LSU National Championship team/program closer to :
Clemson/Bama- type consistency or
2010 Chizik/Auburn ?
SI ranks them # 10 in the way too early Top 25.

Without Burrow or Joe Brady I really don't see how they can duplicate it

LSU lost to Bama, Fla, and A&M last year. Who knows how good of a rent-a-quarterback they might hire this year? Now that they’ve found the recipe for LSU success, why go away from it? And paying them with fake money is really cheap.

They compete with Alabama, Auburn and TAM for a divisional title and a trip to the SEC championship and a chance to get to the CFP. Saban's Alabama is 10-4 against LSU. Tough row to hoe every stinking year.

They are also losing a ton on both sides of the ball.

My money's on them falling back a bit . They'll still be a solid team , but the losses of Burrow and Brady to the NFL are probably too significant . I say they're a 9-4 or 10-3 team next season , maybe a NY6 bowl ?

I think they finally announce their self-imposed post season ban

The first of September to deal with the cancer charity embezzlement scandal and hope that takes off some of the heat from the NCAA.
Coach O is gone in five years and they don't make the playoffs again for at least a decade.

I expect they follow the UNC model and just tell the NCAA where to go. They will get off near scotfree.

Well, they're already sorta copying UNC...

But LSU just took it a step further and lets all 31,000 students take fake classes.

Put Alabama in the same division with Clemson and see how that works out for you; not to mention Florida, Auburn etc. Florida sits in one of the most fertile recruiting territory's in America. I'm not belittling Clemson. If LSU played in the same ACC division as Clemson then LSU would likely have far greater success than being in the same division with one of the sports greatest dynasty's. That's a fact.

On talent alone, hard to imagine they won’t take a step back:

On Offense:
They are losing four out of five starting lineman (and the listed back-up to the remaining lineman).
They lose their Heisman QB. His back-up has thrown 40 passes last year.
They lose one of their best WRs
They lose their starting RB. Their back-up ran for 295 yards this season.
Of course they lose their Offensive Coordinator.
On defense: one end of the line, both ILBs, a corner and a safety
I would be surprised...and thoroughly impressed with Coach O...if they Made it back to the playoffs.

I was amazed at how the LSU D improved in the final weeks of the season. They went from pathetic to very solid. I haven't seen any other team improve that much. CLEMSON would have beaten LSU mid-season due to their weak D. Any team could score on them at that time. The stars and moons all aligned for LSU and their Cinderella season, but expect the pumpkin to return.

The SI way to early top 25 list lost all credibility by

having UGA listed at #2. Ummm no. UGA might not even sniff the top 10 by the end of the year. They lose 9 starters on offense (almost the whole offensive line, QB, running back) and six starters on defense. Now that Sam Pittman is gone along with most of their experienced OL talent - UGA is going to be in a line of scrimmage rebuild...
Regarding LSU - the flash in the pan year is gone. They shot the Unicorn and ate it during the National Championship celebration - it won't be back next year. The one year upheaval of the SEC west returns to normal with Bama being the team to beat.
