LSU and Clemson scoring statistics against opponents

This is very similar to the thread where I looked at the scoring offenses of LSU and OSU throughout the year based on offensive and defensive scoring stats. I did both offense and defense for both teams. For the year LSU combined offense and defense is 29.6 points better than their opponents on the year. Clemson combined offense and defense is 33.1 points better than their opponents on the year. Not to anyone's surprise Clemson makes up the most ground defensively while LSU holds the edge offensively. The stats continue to point to a very close game, the most interesting information from these stats to me is the two teams that LSU and Clemson have played that were the most complete on their schedule. For LSU it was Alabama and for Clemson it was OSU. You could easily point UGA and say well they were the #2 ranked defense and LSU put up 37 but when you look closer, Georgia has the 50th best offense and that was non existent against top 25 defenses. The best comparison is Bama and OSU. Bama has a slight edge in offense while OSU holds a solid advantage on the defensive side of the ball. Two close games for both teams. I still see a close game and am still calling for our Clemson Tigers to take home 3 of the last four and back to back National Championships with a 38-30 win!

Tigerman040210® I really liked your train of thought and on a day where work is optional I took a look at where this line of thinking would put the projected points. Based on the offensive pts above average + Defensive points against you end up with a prediction of 37.9-33 in favor of the good guys.

If you flip it an take the average points for - the defensive pts saved you end up 36.6-30 in favor of the good guys.

To check if this was close I checked the same math against the OSU stats and the predictions ended up 29.4-35.1 in favor of OSU and 27.8-29.5 in favor of OSU. Pretty dang accurate for the good guys if you ask me.

Again thanks I hadn't thought to put those numbers together like that.
