Loyalty, assumptions, and selfishness

Jun 6, 2015, 3:52 PM

I understand loyalty, but it seems some are making big assumptions about who is loyal to Jack and what they will or will not do. I don't know any of Jack's former assistants personally, but I expect DRad to approach anyone with whom he is interested in pursuing. If those guys choose not to come here, OK, but it may have little to do with Jack. They may simply like their current situation better, and loyalty is a convenient explanation. Regardless, if Jack expects his former assistants to avoid CU because of loyalty to him, he is a very selfish individual, and I'm hoping this is not the case. Would you call Dabo "unloyal" for taking the job after TB's mid-season ouster? I doubt it. Is LeCroy being unloyal by mentioning to DRad that he has an interest in the job now? Also, wouldn't he be one of the guys for whom Jack reportedly fell on the sword? I'm interested to see how this plays out, but I think some are painting with too broad of a loyalty brush if that's the main reason for marking off some or all of Jack's former assistants.

Don't think you'd see the same loyalty from Bowden's assistants as you will from Jack's. If we can't get a proven coach, I wouldn't mind LeCroy being given a chance. He is a good coach and very popular with the players.

I don't think the loyalty issues will matter much with Corbin or O'Sullivan because I seriously doubt Clemson is gonna put up the kind of money necessary to pull a coach like them (I would love to be wrong but either is gonna take close to a million to get to move unless they are deeply unhappy where they are). I don't think LeCroy would be in the same boat. I don't think anyone would think he was disloyal for jumping at the chance. It would be a huge career leap forward for him and I'm sure it wouldn't be begrudged. Established head coaches making more of a lateral move are who are going to be seen as disrespecting Coach Leggett.

If they were all that loyal to Jack they would have still been on his staff.
