Louisville trip

Sep 16, 2019, 2:01 PM

Going to Louisville with wife and grandson. We are going to Louisville Bat Company and Churchill Downs. Any advice is appreciated. We are flying in. Thanks a bunch..

The Louisville Slugger factory and museum tour won't take long (about two hours). Everyone receives a miniature souvenir bat at the end of the tour.

You may want to check the dates, but I don't think there is any racing at Churchill Downs the weekend of the Louisville game. They still conduct tours and the tour is worth the time. You can even eat dinner or lunch in Millionaire's Row. Just keep in mind, it's more about the experience than the food.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

If you happen to be into Bourbon and can make it down to Bardstown (just 45 minutes south of Louisville) you will not be disappointed. Bardstown is an old small town that is labeled as the most beautiful small town in America and the Bourbon Capital of the World. Several downtown shops and also many bourbon tours in the area.

Have a Hot Brown at the Tavern followed by a Bread Pudding split between the three of you.
If the Bourbon Festival is going on as it was 4 years ago, it’s good craft fair with some of the distillers having good “booths”. And a beer garden!

For fried chicken a great old restaurant near the Steven Foster State Park entrance.

That’s Kurtz Restaurant. Had to look it up. They fry chicken for lunch and when they run out, that’s it. No fried chicken for supper. Kinda like my grandparents. They killed a chicken on Saturday and hung it in the well to cook for Sunday breakfast then had country ham for Sunday dinner (the noon meal).
