Congrats VA !! There is a lot to learn

Apr 9, 2019, 10:37 AM

from VA basketball. I have mentioned a few times this season that VA had a business model that would fit with Clemson. And then, they win it all. I still think they are a system to copy.

I think we've tried.. we just have an INCREDIBLY average coach and roster to compete with.

to invest in basketball. They spend significantly more on basketball than we do.

You’re wrong. They do spend more but the coots spend more than uva. Uva is like 30th in school spending and we’re 50th.

Very minutely in scheme of things. It’s not spending and fan participation as you’ve been beating that drum.

LSU spends less than us and could careless about basketball. It’s players and coaches and to win it, a little luck.

No, I'm not wrong.

UVA has poured significant money into their basketball program. John Paul Jones arena was completed over a decade ago, which would've cost $170 million in today's dollars. This is much more than the $65 million we spent on the Littlejohn renovations. They also spend millions more per year on their basketball program than we do. These are FACTS.

This is not to minimize the fact that they also have a great coach who recruits well for his system. There is no debating that. They also have a superior basketball history to us.

But to act like their success is solely due to their coach is failing to acknowledge how much all of the other aspects (facilities, funding, fans, etc.) matter as well.

No one is claiming that spending more money is a guarantee of more success, but if you take a look at the programs that are in the top 25-30 in basketball spending, you will see that most of those programs are successful at a consistent rate.

All this sounds familiar like the posts on other boards when the tigers won the natty in football. Why can't we do it? Bottom line to me is it's not that easy and something you can just copy.

Lot to learn? Hmmmmm Maybe they learned it from US!

Having a system to copy means having a system that recruits as they do.
We recruit "basketball players", They recruit "basketball playmakers".
