Lost class ring

Jun 2, 2017, 8:44 AM

Any of you ever lost your Clemson ring? Mine's been missing for about a month now. Couldn't wear it consistently for a while after I dinged up my finger, so would wear it when I could and (stupidly, in retrospect) put it in my pocket when I couldn't.

I have no idea where I lost it - not at work or someone would have told me, and I only go to a few different lunch spots, and none of them have seen it. I'm hoping it's somewhere at home but have almost turned the place upside down looking for it.

I'm hoping that if someone did find it they'd look me up - my name is on the inside, class year of course (91), and that I was in Pershing Rifles.

What's a new/replacement ring cost these days? Anyone lost theirs and had it returned by someone who looked them up?

Signed - Distraught in DeOffice

haven't lost one, but I found a ring one time

name was inside. Called the Alumni Association. They tracked the person down and we got it back to them immediately.

You may want to call them and alert them to your plight. Good luck.

my Clemson signet ring, given to me by my girlfriend at Christmas, stolen out of my glove compartment at the Swap Shop in Fort Lauderdale. That was 1993 and have seen no sign of it since! Very disappointing!

Lost class ring..

Jun 2, 2017, 8:56 AM

My 1966 ring stolen in 1983 and replaced at high $440..

And this current Ring was lost & found in 2015 in my RV combo washer-dryer in the rubber drain liner near door where a run-off drain hole is. Lucky!

Also, I don't wear it much except to show off (to Coots) and thus it's lose in pants pocket, so have to worry about holes in pocket!

Back track in your mind, don't force the lost issue while crossing your fingers since new cost may be close to $2000. Check with Ring company or price out gold.

Good luck TiGER!

Re: Lost class ring

Jun 2, 2017, 9:00 AM

I lost mine back in 2001.

The nice girl I had a one-night stand with in Charleston found it on her night-table the next morning (with my watch). We didn't exchange contact information, but like you I had my initials stenciled into my ring.

She mailed everything to Clemson, and about 4 weeks later I got a call from the Alumni Office. They looked me up by class and my initials and told me they had my ring, and watch. True Story.

So there's hope. I hope you find it buddy, good luck!

My Dad, Class of '52, lost his

Jun 2, 2017, 9:04 AM

a couple of years before he passed away. Months went by without it being found, and my brothers and I were discussing getting him a new one. As an earlier poster said, the cost was just north of $1000. Then one day my brother was at Dad's house pressure washing, and needed some ice for his beer cooler. He went to the freezer, took out the ice bin, dumped it into his cooler, and lo and behold, there was Dad's ring. Turns out he never used the ice dispenser, preferring instead to reach into the ice bin and grab a handful of ice for his nightly G&T. He had lost weight and the ring slipped off of his finger, sitting in the ice bin for months. Wish I could have seen his and my brother's face when the ring was returned.

Good luck finding yours. Just like this story, it could be in one of the places you wouldn't think to look.

New ring will run you between $1,200 and $2,000...

Jun 2, 2017, 9:09 AM

depending upon what you get.

Never lost mine but I've found three of them over the years (one in an airport bathroom, one in a restaurant bathroom, and one on a golf course). All of them returned to their owners.

Coming from you Bill, that's the highest of compliments. Some of my greatest memories from Clemson are my old P/R days - color guard at the home football games, 21 gun salutes at funerals of alumni veterans, Veteran's Day and other ceremonial functions, and the days when they'd let us end our routines at Tigerama in Death Valley by firing our rifles!

Re: Lost class ring

Jun 2, 2017, 9:16 AM

I was starting to think that it's just a ring and I'll live without it, but watched the 60 Minutes bit on Col Ben Skardon over Memorial Day weekend and was reminded of how special the Clemson ring is. My grandfather had one, my dad, one of my brothers, a sister-in-law, and one of my nephews. I've been in airports from Boston to Hawaii and recognized other alumni from their Clemson ring. It's an automatic connection and common reference and always makes for a fun time swapping stories about when we were there, things we did, what things were like, how the sports teams did, etc.

I was recently at a Firehouse Subs and saw a car in the parking lot that had a Clemson ring sticker on it and the year was 56 - two years before my dad graduated - as well as a Senior Platoon sticker, and my dad was also in that organization. I saw someone that might be the car owner, noticed his ring, and we struck up a conversation (it was his car!). He didn't know my dad, but it was fun chatting with him for a few about old Clemson.

Anyway, hopefully this thing will turn up around the house somewhere. We just moved in about a year ago and have been renovating extensively, so things aren't as organized and neat as we'd like just yet!

There's something special in those hills, but there's also something very special in those rings!

A buddy of mine lost his throwing eggs.

Jun 2, 2017, 9:21 AM

A drunk buddy of mine decided a good way to depose of some spoiled eggs was by heaving them off our backporch. Unfortunately, he woke up the next day and realized his Clemson ring was gone. We had to reminded him about his great egg toss from the night before, so he figured he'd lost it then.

We looked in the backyard for a few hours. Nothing. A week later we organized an 8-man team of idiots with metal detectors. Few hours of searching and again found nothing. Everyone else gave it up for lost, but my buddy was still planning how to organize another search.

A couple of months later another roommate went to grab a snack bar out of a box on top of the fridge and found the ring inside. Suddenly the egg tosser remembered that he took it off so he wouldn't lose it throwing eggs and decided the box was the safest place.

Graduated in '02. Lost my ring in '05. Think it was stolen out of my house. Never returned to me. I feel like I paid $500 in '02 for my ring. In '06 when I priced out a replacement it was over $1000. Don't even want to know what it costs now. I never replaced it.

Reckless96 may be able to help you with that. Might even be true!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was true

Jun 2, 2017, 8:56 PM

...I was completely hammered and didn't even remember getting in my car to drive home. A few of us ( ex-roomates and other Clemson buddies) were partying at Club Trio, we was drinking liquor, and that's all I remember.

The next day I drove around for like 4 hours in the neighborhood by The Citadel trying to find the girl's house. I still don't know which house it was. She was actually closer to 40 yrs old, but that's another story.

I never thought I'd see my ring or my watch again. I saw her about 5 years later at the Boone Hall Oyster roast and thanked her, she laughed about it and was cool.

I had the stone replace in my'77 ring a few months ago. I inquired about the replacement cost and I was told to replace it with one of equal value would be more then double the cost of the current rings. More gold in the older rings.

Re: I'm on my third

Jun 2, 2017, 10:57 AM

I'm on my third and lucky to not be fourth over the last 35 years. First one I left on a darn video game in Spartanburg. Never heard a word. Second one I left in St. Lucia on my honeymoon. Never heard a word. Third flew off my hand throwing a ball into the ocean at IOP for my dog to go get. It was winter so we rolled up our pant legs and waded in. 20 minutes later, my wife found it with her feet in two to three feet of water. If she hadn't, I would have gone and bought my fourth. I'll ALWAYS have one.

Re: Lost class ring

Jun 2, 2017, 12:09 PM

I lost mine in August of 1997 (actually the same day Princess Dianna died). Like you, I searched everywhere and couldn't imagine where or when I lost it. Fast Forward to October of that year.....I am driving back into town (Greenville) from a business meeting. Wife calls and says "someone found your ring". I am of course ecstatic. I call the number of the guy who found it. He is from Virginia but happens to babysitting his grandchildren in Simpsonville while their parents were on a trip. He give me the address.....so I immediately head that way.

He says he was washing clothes and heard something clanking in the washer (my ring). He says "I am a Tar Heel (1960 grad) but I know how much you Clemson People love your school and your rings" so he called the Alumni office. He says I'm not a Clemson fan and I say....well I always pull against the Tar Heels. To which he replies...."great come on up and have a beer" and we watched part of a world series game together.

Turns out the Grandson found it at our community pool near while visiting a friend. The kid was keeping it in his pocket and showing it around school. Forgot about it...and hence the washing machine discovery.

Point is.....1. your ring my very well find its way back to you (and I surely hope it does). 2. not all Tar Heels are cheaters...just most.

Had a guy sitting next to us at FSU game last year was clapping when his came off. Hostile grounds for a Tiger ring. He gave up looking but I couldn't imagine leaving that ring there. About 20' down our isle i saw a shine in popcorn scraps and there it was. He was overly Thankful and Happy. Good Luck!!!~
