It's kinda hard to explain how that program has slipped so

far. It was arguably the best baseball program in the country a decade ago. And they still get Top 10 recruiting classes most years... on paper, I'd bet they still have more "talent" than we do. I don't know... is it just coaching, or injuries, or players that don't live up to their ranking... all of the above? I don't follow college baseball enough to know. But it's been a helluva fall for that program.
Darn the luck. LOL

Their team looks normal now instead of 'roid infused power lifters. Many of the players had a 'Barry Bonds' look when they won their two titles, IIRC. Maybe it's just me...... but an observation at the time.

My oversimplified explanation is this: Coot baseball rose

Clemson foolishly did not recruit Scotty Wingo, even though he was a Clemson legacy from Mauldin High. He went on to become an integral part of the Coots rise to winning Nattys in 2010 and 2011. Right now, they don't have them a Scotty Wingo on the field, even though he is an assistant coach for them.

You could be right... but it seemed like they had badazz players

all over the field... dominant pitchers, guys like Jackie Bradley Jr, etc. Surely it was more than just getting Wingo...?
edit: Like I said, I don't follow college baseball that much, but when your most hated rival is playing for a nat'l title, I'd tune in just to hope they'd fail. So I did see a glipse of those teams back then, and they were really good...

Wingo was a role player for the coots.
People make a big deal about Clemson not recruiting him because he had a big part in their title run, but in reality Clemson didn't miss him for most of the remainder of the time that he was a coot.

It's amazing how far that program has dropped since Tanner and the construction of their minor league like stadium. You'd be hard pressed to find a similar drop in all of baseball history. I love it!

Baseball imo is a tough sport to recruit and I would think a few misses on recruits could set a program back. Lack of pitching is killing them right now. No way a Xavier should score 15 runs.

Yeah, really. Of course, if you had Xavier minus 7.5, you're a winner! ??

Their pitching staff is depleted with 3 of top 4 pitchers having season ending injuries. Did you see all the wild pitches and walks against us? It looked like Little Leage pitching.
They have one good pitcher - their #1 guy who started Friday against us. And their freshman shortstop looked great against us. That's all they have this year. Almost sad, but I'm not crying.
GO TIGERS!

We’ll……….even coots need a tradition. It’s the coot version of “The Eternal Flame” at Arlington National Cemetery.
Personally, I think it’s a bit much that they plumbed a natural gas line to a dumpster……but it’s their tradition.

That Friday night game could be a good one but the Sat and Sunday games could get ugly.

Think Kingston is a Tanner buddy. Not sure how that’s going to end up.
