Mike probably should have gone to Juco/prep first.

May 16, 2012, 8:58 AM

He needed some time/discipline at Hargrave or another military prep to get his priorities straight. I wish him the best, and really wish we could see him in orange again. I know we are fine at RB, but this kid is an ELITE athlete. He is at a crossroads-he can right the ship and potentially be an NFL talent, or he can flunk his way into wasting it all.

Dabo and this staff are dedicated to their kids and are great mentors. Clemson goes above and beyond to try and guide athletes towards academic and athletic success. If the university resources and Dabo's staff/the team couldn't turn this kid, he's simply not ready. There's no other way to put it.

All the best Mike!

We put a lot of recuits in prep school. Mike probably would have refused to go. With the acidemic help we give kids, no reason not to pass unless you just didn't try.OR you just got so coddled through high school that you had no idea how to apply yourself.
It's a shame. Mike really missed out on a great opportunity at Clemson.

I seem to recall that academics were an "issue" for him when he came out of high school. Looks like those chickens came home to roost, so to speak. Anyways, I wish the kid the best of luck, we shouldn't get down on a kid with a learning issue.

Looking at his apparent lack of discipline, a yr at Hargrave

would've been perfect. But it is hard to tell a 5 star recruit to wait when so many other programs will say come play now.

And that IS the point: by telling him he needed a semester to prep, while AL, FL and others were whispering in his ear that he'd play from day one...we wouldn't have landed him.

Agreed, if he pouted because Sammy had more success freshman year I can't imagine how he would react to someone saying you can't even wear a jersey freshman year.

I'd say the NCAA may have an opinion about this.

I suspect it was their guidelines that he failed to meet. So no, he won't be playing D1 ball next year.
