Clearly.
Unnecessary roughness.

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:15 PM

I thought so too but the replay definitely showed helmet to helmet

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was, by rule, targeting

Nov 3, 2018, 1:17 PM

But it's one of those where he didn't lead with his helmet.

But the Lou player is by rule defenseless and any forcible helmet to helmet contact is gonna be a flag.

But it wasn't the normal launching/spearing style hit.

Re: It was, by rule, targeting

Nov 3, 2018, 1:45 PM

Exactly. The intent of the rule is for the player to keep his eyes up and not lower his helmet which AJ did. But any helmet to helmet will be called because Interpretation of the rule has changed.

But it looked like he turned his head specifically so he wouldn't be leading with it...

Kinda hard to know where the other player's head is going to be when you're turning your head and they are moving the entire time as well.

Don't think it was intentional.

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:38 PM [ in reply to Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder ]

That is why they wear helmets isn't it, bc they may hit helmet to helmet in cases where there is a tackle being made in actual tackle FB. Targeting is when you lead with the helmet, and in no part of the replay did it show where AJ led with his helmet!!! He led with a shoulder and naturally the head will follow the shoulders, and that is exactly what happen, there was no intention for the two head to meet up in the crash.

The targeting rule was so open ended when it was made that, no ref has a clue of what actual targeting really is. They are so confused with the rule, that if two heads happen to hit, they automatically assuming that it meets what Targeting truly is, but most of these targeting calls are total bull sh!t!!!

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:16 PM

Under the new rules that fact is not relevant. It is all about helmet to helmet contact. The rule is too broad and refs are told to flag everything.

The booth will always lean toward the call on the field. When you flag everything on the field. An inordinate amount of bad calls will stand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Targeting is

Nov 3, 2018, 1:16 PM

leading with the crown of the helmet. If he's leading with the shoulder, how is that targeting? You can't be targeting.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's any hit to the head or neck area on a defenseless

Nov 3, 2018, 1:27 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But it was the crown of his shoulder***

Nov 3, 2018, 1:17 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And the returner lowered his head forward.

Nov 3, 2018, 1:17 PM

So what the h is AJ suppose to do?!?

~JKB

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrap up instead of going for the big hit

Nov 3, 2018, 1:18 PM

I'm not arguing it should be the rule, but it is

Re: Wrap up instead of going for the big hit

Nov 3, 2018, 1:20 PM

I think the only problem there is that it is extremely difficult to slow down enough to wrap up when you are running that fast at somebody before they can juke you and take off.

Nov 3, 2018, 1:21 PM [ in reply to And the returner lowered his head forward. ]

Break his legs lol. He should have got lower but who knows if the returner would have went lower. You just have to not tackle him hard on a punt return I guess.

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:17 PM

So stupid returner lowered his head. Guess AJ should have just went for the kids knees and tore his ACL or MCL. ???????

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:18 PM

The slower replay shows the returner leading with his helmet into Terrell. The targeting rule is majorly flawed and sucks. Need to rewrite it.

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:22 PM

So will Terrell be benched for first half next week?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:26 PM

Nope that’s only if it happens in the second half.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:21 PM

There was helmet contact, but he was clearly trying to avoid forceful impact by turning his head.

What’s a player supposed to do?

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:26 PM

The ESECPN guys say that he must learn to not make un-intentional hits, go figure!!!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was NOT TARGETING

Nov 3, 2018, 1:22 PM

whatever, you know what they say about "best intentions".

This targeting thing is a mess.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

By rule it was

Nov 3, 2018, 1:24 PM

Forcible contact to the head/neck area of a defenseless player.

Not saying I like the rule, but it is the rule.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: By rule it was

Nov 3, 2018, 1:59 PM

But he lowered his head and 3 did not just turned to the side.

There needs to be a change in the rule then.

Re: Looked like AJ led with his shoulder

Nov 3, 2018, 1:23 PM

These dumb A$S announcers say that it wasn't an intentional targeting hit, but he must learn not to make un-intentional hits, where do ESECPN get these bright people from???
