Look At Our Past To See Future

I have a hard time believing Clemson will leave the ACC. To do so would be a bold, leading the way move. Clemson just does not have that type DNA. We don't make bold moves in sports. Look at our BB, FB and Baseball hires for HC and our AD hires. We don't go for the splash. We are loyal to a fault, sticking with our hires way past their expiration date. Look at our past 30 years of mediocrity. We don't lead. We generally follow when it becomes obvious that not to do so will result in falling behind the mid pack.
Leaving the ACC is just not a move I see Clemson making. It would be a bold move. It would require a huge committment to put an emphasis on winning and competing at a higher level than in the past 30 years. If we can't commit to beating Texas, Oklahoma, FSU(if they move to Big)and the best the Big has and to be a dominant player in the league, then we don't need to move. In fact, if we can't make that commitment in the ACC, and haven't for the past 30 years, why are we going to now make it in a new league?
I don't see it happening. It's not in our DNA. Playing it safe and not rocking the boat, and just maintaining the status quo as long as possible is in our DNA.

there wouldnt be an ACC without Clemson and Md having enough of the SoCon no bowl policy. I agree we put up with too much ACC junk and are treated as second class citizens but who knows maybe once again we will see the need for a change. Not saying we will or even should. everyone involved in the ACC decision is long dead and gone. But we have jumped before

I agree. TDP said Clemson will have a seat @ the table and that is all we know.
Clemson will do what they have to do just like 60 yrs ago. I hope they make a better choice this time but the options maybe be more limited this time around.

I would tend to agree but I will go one step futher.I do not see Clemson leading the way. However ,if their position in the ACC should be compromised by(say) FSU,and or Miami leaving to join the Big 12,or an N.C.State should be persuded by the SEC along with Virginia Tech, then Clemson would find them selves in a very sticky situation. They would be stuck in a waterdowned ACC.What happens then? The BIG problem that everyone seems to be overlooking, however is that Clemson has not been approached by another conference(particularlly the Big 12),and cannot go anywhere without being asked to join. All Clemson can do is put out feelers, and let the other conferences know they are interested in at least starting a dialogue. They can either be proactive, and explore their options,or sit back and do nothing.Doing nothing ,however, could mean Clemson ends up being a football school in a basketball conference.

rectum! We will not lead the way to the Big. We may follow, but we will not lead. So we had to pay assistant coaches some big bucks. Maybe because we had such an inexperienced HC who needed shoring up. Just saying.

WE CAN NOT GET ASKED unless Clemson makes the first move by informing the acc that we are looking for greener pastures. Period!!!

Maryland were behind the forming of the ACC from the old Southern Conference in 1953, correct? What was the reason for forming a new conference? Football, and in particular, limitations in conference bowl participation from the old Souhern Conference.

I'm shocked, I tell ya, shocked, that you didn't mention that in 1896, under Coach Riggs, we were an independent team.

1953 was 60 years ago. When Atchley & McClellan retired in the 80s they were replaced by Lennon & BR. At that point everything started changing and athletics were no longer a high priority at Clemson. We started an agonizing decline, which was accelerated by Barker. Clemson is not the same place it was 30 years ago.

Everything has been in place for the football team to be a top 10 team.Except the most important thing getting real coaches in here.Although the verdict is still out on Dabo at least he is surrounding hisself with top notch asst coaches.I think in the next few yrs no matter what conf we are in the Tigers are going to be good.

You people wanting to stay just don't get it do you? If we stay in the ACC we will no longer have the opportunity to play for all the marbles. Plus if we move to Big 12 we will have a chance to play in much better bowl games as well. If we play great we could be playing for it all soon.

With the money that TX and OU bring to college football I do believe that the Big XII will be the first conference to expand to 14-16 teams eventually. With that being said if Clemson is serious about football it will not surprise me if we make that jump. Time will tell I guess!
