LOL. Saw the post below about the Coot that stated they

Jul 5, 2017, 7:42 AM

will have one of the top receiving corps in the country this year. I assume he is basing that off of the increased production after Bentley was installed....

Well, in the first 6 games of the year with McIllwain, the coots averages 212.16 yards passing per game. In the last 7 games with young Bentley, the coots averaged 214 yards per game passing. Yeah, he got killed by us and Florida, but he also got to go against UMass and South Florida, #'s 106 and 122 in passing yards allowed. He also had the benefit of Western Carolina, #53 in FCS in passing yards allowed.....

I agree. Don't know what all the hype is about Bentley. He has shown me nothing.

This is why I'm not sold on Bentley

Jul 5, 2017, 7:50 AM

I guess I can understand why coot fans would be excited about him but that's only because the last two years have been horrific for them in Columbia. QB play is down across the board in the SEC and the conference is desperately looking for someone to hype up. Enter Jake and his ok #'s against horrible pass defenses and now the hype machine is rolling. Personally I don't buy it.

Exactly. I guess he is above average in the sec for QB's cause the league is horrible in that regard. They gotta hype somebody.

Wasn't long ago the SEC had Murray, Mett, McCarron, Manziel and Shaw and the ACC was struggling. Why are we so biased on here?

Missouri and Western Carolina and UMASS. That's 4 wins, but UT should count as 2 wins. UT almost beat Vandy...

Hard to tell about Bentley or their WRs given their OL is terrible. I Bentley is a decent QB and their WRs/TE are better than average but unless their OL gets better it will not make a difference

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I tend to agree...

Jul 5, 2017, 8:30 AM

Bentley was a serviceable QB against weak defenses but he has done absolutely nothing against top-tier defenses to merit all of the praise and hype.

Those buffoons don't even have the best receiving corps in the state let alone the country.

Grandiose delusions ans over-exaggerated optimism at its finest.

He is terrible against a good D because he gets killed by the D Line. DW4 would only be serviceable with their OL. Not saying Bentley is as good as DW4 but a QB is only as good as the OL in front of them.

In this discussion, logic says

Jul 5, 2017, 11:32 AM [ in reply to Re: I tend to agree... ]

that given the sample size and the mixed results, there is no reason for optimism nor pessimism but there is a reason to wait for a greater sample size and results to decipher trends that may give better statistical indicators...

in short, the hype is unwarranted at this point...

as long as he's playing against lousy defenses.

He's never going to be the league MVP or Heisman contender you deluded goobers have made him out to be, and if you don't realize that, the issue lies with you.

You might want to refrain from throwing out reading comprehension barbs when you erred.

HA! no error on my part...

Jul 5, 2017, 3:22 PM [ in reply to Re: i didn't say he wasn't a good QB... ]

but i will accept that your reference of "good" is wholly opposite of mine... for instance, i will say that connor shaw was a good QB and dylan thompson was not good but "meh"... so, until proven otherwise, jake bentley is best compared to dylan thompson for a lot of the reasons already posted in other comments...

...and that's all i have to say about that...

Class of 09, we did watch him play - against us, he didn't

Jul 5, 2017, 3:30 PM [ in reply to Re: i didn't say he wasn't a good QB... ]

play well, hopefully it is just because of our D, and the same D,improved this year, will make all the QB's look bad this year.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Class of 09, we did watch him play - against us, he didn't

Jul 5, 2017, 4:06 PM

Any knowledgeable person would look at that game and acknowledge how thoroughly your defense overpowered our offensive line.

If you guys want to argue his production won't live up to the hype because of how poor our offensive line is this year. That would be a fair criticism.

But arguing he's not a good quarterback is just a product of bias.

Maybe if he beat a team with an actual pulse...

Jul 5, 2017, 4:34 PM

Unless and until he does, arguing that he's not a great QB is an entirely fair and reasonable argument.

In fact, trying to argue to the contrary would be a product of bias.

I would be a good QB too if the only teams I could rack up numbers on were Western Carolina, UMASS and USF. Any Defense with a pulse he struggles.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let's put it in its proper perspective...

Jul 5, 2017, 4:00 PM

Jake is all would in the minds of $CU fans but would struggle to make the three-deep at Clemson as would 99% of the players on their roster.

Re: i didn't say he wasn't a good QB...

Jul 5, 2017, 7:54 PM [ in reply to Re: i didn't say he wasn't a good QB... ]

I live at a beach and sick of regular fireworks that get shot off here on all special occasions including Arbor Day and Ash Wednesday, I opted for a different kind on the Fourth and rewatched Clemson/Carolina.

McIlwain was easily the better of your two QBs on that day and it wasn't just because he faced a watered down D. It was how he responded to pressure. He played like he wasn't afraid to get hit. Maybe Bentley will get there with age but I saw him badly overthrow a couple of open receivers when he did have time. He was hearing footsteps that weren't there.

Now I suspect you've watched him more closely and have seen him play well against lesser defenses. Maybe that means that if he had a better line protecting him, he'd play well against everybody but at some point a QB has to make something from nothing.

The real problem you face though is you'll likely never find out because there are no signs he will have a good O-line at any time in his career. You do have a new coach but that takes time to take effect even if you have the right guy. In Robbie Caldwell we have one of the best in the business but he didn't waltz in and say, "bend more here, do this with your feet" and fix our problem. It took time and talent.

And speaking of talent- Even if you signed an amazing class (no signs of this anywhere) and had a great coach, you'd still be two or three years away from putting a great line on the field.

So on the issue of the quality of Bentley or his receivers- it just doesn't matter.

Well it's because the Bentley threw for over 300 yards and 3 tds against that big bad defense of theirs in the spring game. They only ranked 12th in the SEC so that must mean their d ranks 12th in the country. Am I right?

Well they either have to lie to themselves to get a false sense of hope or why even watch. Football is more fun if you have a chance to win and the only way they have a chance to win anything is in their mind.
