music... unless somebody just blatantly steals lyrics without giving the songwriter credit, etc. Everybody "steals" in the sense that they were influenced by previous artists. Everybody can rattle off the bands/whatever that they grew up listening to and trying to play as a kid in the basement, and it all "leaks into" their music. Everybody stands on the shoulders on previous artists... all the way back to the first caveman creating a beat by hitting two rocks together... LOL
Any black singer with the voice, good looks, charisma, on-stage persona, etc of Elvis would also be famous.

get the full benefits they should have when writing hits for Elvis. I don't think anything he did was as egregious as Vanilla Ice trying to not give Bowie/Mercury or Miranda Lambert not giving Steve Earle credit on one of her songs.

on the planet, and they wouldn't have become big hits. Elvis could sing the Yellow Pages and it would sound magnificent. Unless I'm mistaken he had gospel records go gold. He had a once in a lifetime voice... I've never heard anyone with a voice like that.

Truthfully, by expanding the audience for that type of music, he probably brought a lot of people around to being more open to it, but it's true that he was copying the style, look, moves and tones of black musicians at the time and making more money on it than they were going to.
