Maybe not in excess, but they take more than Americans and sometimes for longer times? I have been reading about Americans working much harder but less efficient than Europeans.

vacations, paternity leave, 12+ months of maternity leave, 15 national holidays, etc. Here in the US we work hard and forego vacation in hopes that we move up the corporate ladder.
Personally, Greenr don't do that. I work 40ish hours a week, do a decent job, take vacation when I can, and keep on keepin' on. I try to keep work and home separate, but I am not in the majority at my work. One day this will probably catch up with me.
