What am I missing about Bridgewater?

First, the dude is no taller than Boyd, other than his forehead perhaps. He is also much skinnier and much less durable than Boyd will be on the NFL level. He feasted on incredibly weak competition yet is validated through his signature wins/performances against Florida and Miami. Meanwhile Boyd, who gets knocked for his height, has a resume that includes solid performances against Auburn 2011, 2012; FSU 2011 and could even make the argument for FSU in 2012; va tech in 2011 and ACC Champ game; LSU 2012; Georgia 2013 and Ohio State. Bridgewater could not string together completions on his PRO DAY while Boyd did not miss a single throw on his (one drop I believe). I get that Boyd is not first-round material, but what separates the two by five rounds?

As someone who does not get paid to evaluate talent, what am I missing about Bridgewater?

I never watched the other guy play. Maybe it was something in Boyd's delivery mechanics that scared folks. Maybe they figured he's had 5-6 of his targets drafted by NFL teams and they thought it was more them than him. I have no idea. But he got drafted and now just needs to do what he is coached to do and he'll make the team. If he makes that team, there is a decent chance he'll get one start next season.

Agree. Scary to think they actually had him rated as the number 1 qb coming out preseason last year. Who gets so nervous on a pro day that it looked like he was throwing practice rounds for the boys of duck dynasty to shoot down? Didn't have a single pass that looked quality. Can't believe they didn't break from live coverage to safe the kid some face.

put him as far ahead of boyd as the experts in the draft did. then again, i'm not an expert.

Off the top of my head, I can't name a single receiver Bridgewater had. Much less a Dwayne Allen, Nuk Hopkins or Sammy Watkins. All else being equal, scouts may feel Bridgewater has a higher ceiling.

Than we did the past couple of years. Wonder if that point is made moot given the secondaries Louisville has faced within their conference, though. Outside of Ucf (which they lost, and a pedestrian performance by a first-round standard) Florida, and Miami, not sure how good your receivers really need to be. Good point though. Kinda blows me away they thought Boyd was 5 rounds below him, however.

He's not that athletic nor is his arm strength the best but in games Bridgewater always took what the defense gave him and ran the offense well without making a lot of mistakes. I think Tajh is a better QB as well but Tajh had some notoriously bad games whereas Bridgewater was always cool and collected in most situations. Again he wasn't the best QB, nor was he really top 3 imo, but out of all of them he was the one you could count on the most to transition to the NFL the smoothest.
