Anyone still question the Nolan Turner scholly?

Mar 24, 2016, 4:25 PM

We love Dabo because his teams perform well on the field and are respectable off of the field. The grad rate is high, there is quick fair discipline, the family atmosphere, the fun, and the messages he teaches the team (and me.)

So when I really stop and consider, the Turner schools is an amzing teaching moment on so many levels. Papa Turner was a friend and a teammate. Dabo is big on family. When a man was down at the end of his life, he provided a beautiful gift to him; not just a scholarship, but a reassurance of who would be looking after his son for the next four years.

To the team, is demonstrates the bonds formed can be forever. The family talk isn't just talk. They also are bringing in someone with unique perspective into the locker room. His experience will make the team stronger. The lessons is nothing short of beautiful and does nothing but deepen my respect for the man leading these young men.

Just to note; I don't pretend to critique film or know how a player will project. Perhaps the kid will be amazing. I do know he will be an asset to our team.
Obviously, thoughts with family family and friends during this difficult time.

Unfortunately, the locker room doesn't usually

share the same fan "sentiment." When you are told everyday you have to earn everything you get, well, you'd better perform if others know your situation. "Dabo's boy or Coach's kid" might come at him if he doesn't give it his all. It's up to him. If he embraces the situation and gives 110%, he will be fine. If not, rough time ahead I'm afraid.

Just reality and not usually a post card moment.

Completely Agree

I agree with you. The goal is to win and Dabo has proven he knows how to win. But, when the dust settles, the cheering stops and the balloons drift out across the Upstate, what matters is the men he has built and the lessons he has taught. Dabo has given this young man and his father (may he rest in peace and find grace) a great gift. But, Dabo also has given us a great gift by showing by example what it means when he says Clemson is a family. Now it is time for the Clemson family to embrace Nolan as he deals with this horrific tragedy.

completely different situation....

but if you want to read a great story about what it means to a man to be passing his son onto trusted hands

then read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy; 2007 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Fiction.

Don't watch the freakin' movie - read the book.

Incredible prose.

Not sure what this post does for young Turner

Mar 28, 2016, 5:44 PM

except to put a larger asterisk on the sad & unique situation that brought him to Clemson. That said, Dabo does have a gift for measuring the hearts of young men. And Dabo would not have offered a scholly if he did not believe Turner had the heart and skill sets to contribute on the field. Wish him the very best in the classroom and on the practice field.
