Get over trashing 3 Stars

Jan 25, 2022, 12:45 PM

Every coach wants a 5 Star recruit and every coach wants 4 Star recruits. Guess what, in life you don't always get what you want. A quick look at the Top 200 in Rivals shows about 12 uncommitted or verbal recruits left. Every coach wants them and there are almost 70 Power 5 schools counting ND and Cincy so how does that math work? Dabo and every other coach that have won Championships had 3 Star players and they will again. Don't be arrogant enough to question a player before he ever puts on a jersey.

Useless post of the day.

Definitely useless post - the most successful programs......

Jan 25, 2022, 1:25 PM

are the ones getting 5-stars and 4-stars. If you make the majority of your program 3-stars (not saying that's what we're doing) then you won't be as strong. Sure, there are always exceptions to the rule both ways. We've had some great 3-star players and not all 5-star players live up to their expectations. But statistics show that teams that are heaviest on 3-star players don't make it to the top.

Right now, we're not recruiting as many 5-star players as we have in the past and are recruiting more 3-star players than we had been. This is a trend that concerns me.

A very concerning trend for sure. Understood we just lost a legendary coach to a school that can buy players, but to ignore that recruiting is beginning to slide downward is downright denial.

I agree that this year is a poor recruiting year, but I am not sure why people seem to be considering this a trend. Last year we got Carter, Leigh, Shipley, Page, and Trotter Jr. I am pretty sure all of them were 5* with at least one of the rankings. Our lone 3* was Will Taylor who I think most people around here are very optimistic about.

This class is even comparable to the classes that we used to build ourselves into a championship program. It is merely poor by recent standards. Why do you believe this is a trend rather than an anomaly?

The two most recent National Championships by the Tigers was not won with a top 5 recruiting class composite rating!

16 - 13th
18 - 8th

Folks are looking at the grass on the other side and trying to do apples for apples. Well, Clemson has competed against and beaten teams with better composite-rated talent(Ohio State, Alabama). No reason to doubt that it's over now!

Clemson is on Pace to have top 10 recruiting class by 247 composite in a year that we lost our AD...DC..OC....we also lost 4 top recruits in this cycle....the truth of the matter is...not many programs could possibly bounce back from losing ad...dc...oc...and 4 highly recruited players and still be top 10

If recruits read this board they would definitely not be interested in Clemson. This small look at the “fan” base would turn most any recruit off.

This fall's season will be pivotal as we can't afford to....

Jan 25, 2022, 3:24 PM [ in reply to This is Clemson. Should not be in this position two years ]

have a second down year in a row. We had been reloading every year and staying a top program but if our recruiting doesn't pick up we're going to be in a rebuilding mode like the schools who have a good team every few years or so.

I just hope Cade comes in here and proves himself to be what we obviously hope he will be (TL the 2nd).
