Lets talk bad neighbors
Jun 2, 2022, 4:03 PM
|
|
So, as many of you know, I moved in August. It did not take very long for me to realize the curmudgeons I moved in next to were some of the worst people to exist. These people will go out of the way to ignore you, go out of their way not to make eye contact. They're the type of people that turn their porch light off on Halloween, don't put an ounce of decoration out for any other holiday, including Christmas, and have yelled at kids for walking on their lawn. So, I lost the neighbor lotto on this one. Every single time I talk to them, its about them complaining about something about my yard, house, or SOMETHING is wrong. Each time I speak with them, they bring up the law and "knowing their rights". Turns out neither of them are lawyers... but neighbors girlfriends dad is supposedly one, so they think they are high and mighty because they understand they can cut a single limb down thats hanging over my fence. Whatever, they're losers. A few times, just to be neighborly, I have asked this guy, "hey man, dinner smells awesome tonight, what are you grilling?" and he wont even tell me what hes cooking.
A few months back, the neighbors girlfriend, who lives there, posts pictures from their backyard security camera on NextDoor. In the pictures are some outdoor cats that are walking through their yard or hanging out back there, who knows, either way, not a big deal. Except, it is, to them. The girlfriend, we will call her Bertha, posts along with these pictures that her boyfriend is deathly allergic to cats and goes into the law about outdoor cats and says that she will be setting cat traps and taking any cats she catches to the shelter.
Fast forward a few weeks, and there is an animal control truck in their driveway. The animal control for the town I live in is part of the police force for some reason, so its actually a cop that shows up. The cop is holding an empty trap. So I assume they called the cops to set traps for a couple cats. Another neighbor, lets call her Sandy, heard from another neighbor that Sandys cat was in one of the pictures Bertha posted on NextDoor. Sandy reaches out to Bertha, apologizes, explains this cat used to be a stray that visited their home that her and her husband adopted. Her husband is active military, and it turns out the cat is now registered as a companion and helps him with some PTSD he is suffering with. Bertha writes this all off, so Sandy apologizes again, and goes about her day.
A few weeks later, this outdoor cat claws through their screened in porch and escapes. Bertha called the cops and reported Sandy and her cat. Sandy gets a visit from the police and explains what happened. She still ends up getting a ticket. Fast forward another week and a different cat ends up in their yard, God forbid, so Bertha assumes this is Sandys cat and calls the police again. Police show up on Sandys doorstep and write her another citation... but Sandy shows up at the door holding her cat, proving the cat was not outside.
Bertha has caught one cat thus far and dropped it off at the shelter. How do we know this? Sandy is a pet foster and has animals of all sorts in and out of her home all the time. At this point, I am considering adopting cats and letting them sportfuck and leaving all of the cats outside. I would then get cat food and place it on Berthas side of our fence so the cats will continue to congregate on their property. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to handle these dickwads?

g her own cornwhole in full view of the window every night on NextDoor. Maybe throw in there that she's been seen kicking the animals and that she abuses her boyfriend since he's obviously a ######.
Let the community decide what to do with her.

The way I'm reading it we have a couple who is very private and likes to keep to themselves, but are being bombarded by a bunch of nosy parkers who think they run a community zoo.
For the record, I'm also very anti-military and hate the troops, so your patriotic appeals mean nothing to me.

Our kid ran in their yard one evening and by the time we corralled her (it had been maybe 10 seconds), the guy was outside running from the garage to his backyard to catch the intruder.

Early 40's. As mentioned, not married, which I cannot figure out why. Tax bracket is pretty high. She works for a local tech firm as a marketing manager. He works in data analytics. They have TWO volkswagon golfs, one circa 2006 and one circa 2020 and a 6 series BMW.
Its a gas grill, and I don't think its a Weber, so hes in a tough spot.
They are Cincinnati and Baltimore transplants. They're quite clearly new money because they don't know how to act towards others and look like if they both shop at Ross or TJ Maxx. Opposite of redneck though.

They suck a massive chode. The previous owners of my home left a lot of the yard and landscaping in bad shape, so I spent the first six months cleaning it up. I finally snapped on him one day and told him to chill out and that I was doing the best I could. I reminded him that I had done more for the yard in six months than the previous owners had done in ten years.
A neighbor, Sandy actually, told Red this story today at the park. Red tried to toe the nice line and not say anything too bad about the neighbors. I told her that we need to end up picking sides, because if we play nice guy, no one is going to end up liking us.

Best practice IMO. Let Bertha and Sandy have it out. Unless you have a cat, then you gang up on the neighbor.
But really, they'll leave soon enough.

amusement. Ask Sandy to provide her cat turds to you, neatly bagged, whenever she cleans out her cat's litterbox. Figure out a creative way to launch said cat turds onto Bertha's property--front yard, backyard, porches, roof, etc.--from a safe, out-of-camera-view distance. Slingshot, trebuchet, tshirt cannon, or anything else that makes sense. Doing this at night probably makes the most sense.
Enjoy your horrible, perplexed neighbors trying to figure out the mystery of magically appearing catshit WITH NO CATS CAUGHT ON CAMERA.

back, only I was the neighbor with the cat, and the neighborhood Karen was the one threatening to call the law.
I've since won over said Karen, convinced her to list her house which will close next week while I'm on vacation. Seeing as they won't talk to you, you likely don't have the option of becoming besties.
Don't listen to the "first they came for the cats and I said nothing" advice though. Eventually you'll cross them and have the law called over the smell of burning bacon at brunch.

eight houses on the cut-de-sac and one with this couple who had to be in a witness protection program. Never saw them and when you did, you could not get a wave or a hello out of either one. Hated the kids playing on the street Trapped cats also.
We just ignored them and told all the kids on the street to stay off their property.
The wife called Duke Power to have them put a street light at the end of the cul-de-sac, which was my yard. I called them and said no. I told her if she wanted street lights to move. They never did.
Now they are still there with more kids in those other houses than we had when ours were growing up, so I am sure they are just as mad as ever.

because her cat walked in a neighbor's yard, thus violating the leash law. I'm glad I grew up when dogs and cats ran loose. Everybody in the neighborhood knew everybody else's dog, and knew which dogs were "mean" and should be avoided. It was extremely rare for anyone to get bit, and when it did happen, it was even more rarely anything serious. Nobody owned pitbulls then, and "attacks", maulings, and killings were almost unheard of. The thought of putting cats on leashes would have been met with laughter and scorn. Yes, you stepped in dog ####, but you got a stick and cleaned out the tread of your Chuck Taylor's or PF Flyers and kept right on playing. Now we are truly a nation of neurotic, whining poosays.

I don’t know if you get those free newspapers in your hood. I do and I always take people a few days to throw them away. Anywho, I had a similar neighbor (just moved thank the Lord!) and it hit me… it was raining and everyone had the papers sitting in their driveways. Before I went to bed, I took theirs out of the plastic and opened up every page so it would get soaked with rain and be a mess to clean. It worked to perfection. Meat 'n threes to say is that you seduce and bang the wife, then playback the video while holding up your phone to the security camera.
Best case scenario, you destroy their marriage and they sell the house to split assets.
Worst case scenario, you're drunk one night and unknowingly make your debut on the MMF pr0nhub channel.

non-karen yard. everyone likes karen's husband, but everyone wants karen to move. All started because when trumpy first ran for prez and karen didn't like it, she started putting anti-trumpy signs up, been going on since then. mutliple signs, flags, no trespassing signs, and fence out the the road has been put up, cameras everywhere, houses are 30 ft apart.
FUN TIMES!

Acreage. Forestation. Privacy. Happiness.
I only see my neighbors when I want them to see me, and vice-versa. You have to be physically on my property to see my house or yard.
Yeah, I have to drive an extra 10-15 miles each way to work and the store. I can't get a pizza or Food Dash or whatever delivered to my house. But so what. Worth it. SO WORTH IT.
Plus the neighbors I do have are same-mindset outdoors-loving people who are by default kinder and more helpful to one another. We give each other fresh eggs, fruit off our trees, firewood, etc. We help each other when a tree falls or we have problem with a vehicle. And warn each other when we spot a coyote or bear wandering around.
I would NEVER want to live in a different situation.

The issue is... why move to the suburbs if you actually hate the suburbs? Why surround yourself with families, and kids, and animals if that isn't something you're going to be marginally flexible on?

"neighborly".
If you choose to live in a neighborhood, you are not bound to bake cookies and pies for the people next door like you live in Mayberry, but you ARE obligated to be actual human beings towards them. A wave or "hi" never hurt a soul.

I don't want to be friends with these people. We are not similar in the least. But I do want to be able to smile and wave when I get out of my truck and see them in their yard.

it's the only answer.... or at least, it's a good one.
have pizzas delivered to them
tack fliers to light poles downtown advertising free or cheap stuff.
cut off her catalytic converter
start putting catfood out all over the dang place around her property... call up an army of strays.
salt in her yard
big 4th of july firework displays in front of her house.
give your kid sidewalk chalk and let him/her/they go to town in front of her house. then you sneak out there and make some drawings that are phallic in appearance.
call 811 and have the dig people come out and spraypaint in her yard where the burried utilities are (i just thought of that one... pretty good I think)
call local churches and request in-home visits.
sign her up for meals on wheels or other shiit like that
let the air out of her tires.
knock her garbage cans over
throw your doo doo in her driveway
see if you can buy poison ivy/oak seeds and broadcast all over her yard
put a big poster board at the entrance to the neighborhood saying "Bertha Jones is trapping your cats and give her address". My FIL did that when his neighbor was baiting and trapping cats. It was a pretty good one... and I think it stopped the guy.
alright, brainstorming session over. back to work for me.

away one weekend, have FBCoach, Ryanaddidas, my self. any any other heathen that wants to join come over for a party. Not like that fancy pants boi's brunch you had. No, we need to conjure up that Crules that earned the name 30Rack way back when for his trip to Darlington. We will slam cheap beer, set up a kiddie pool right at the fence and raise all sorts of hell all weekend. It will be some real psychological warfare.
