"However, even if the gun did go off without the trigger being pulled, it doesn’t negate the other negligence that contributed to the deadly shooting.

There is a reason the basic gun safety rules are redundant. You’re never supposed to put your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to fire. You’re never supposed to assume a gun is unloaded. You’re never supposed to point a gun at anything you don’t want to shoot.

Had they all been followed, it is unlikely this shooting would have turned deadly. But, as the numerous prior negligent discharges on set and Baldwin’s other comments reveal, basic safety rules were not followed."

I mostly see trumpies attacking him.

their homework. Whether this was therefore homicide depends on who didn't do what, and why. There are two sides to any issue.

But to see this happen to a guy like him, who has said what he has said, and displayed the attitudes he has, who then immediately jumps to 'it was somebody else's fault', well ... couldn't happen to a nicer and deserving guy.

Should he publicly state he's at fault?

I mean, if you were in his shoes and accidentally killed someone, and you didn't load the gun, would you be taking the blame?

Yes, yes, I know, we all know to check the gun first.

partly his fault, to a great or lesser degree. He needs to shut up, particularly with the 'its not my fault' take. Just shut up and prove his case where it should be. No one has sued him yet, and if someone does it is between them and him (sorry, them and zim), and ze should have the guts to handle there.

But this is about more than that, as you know. He is in personal rehab mode. I agree with the Rittenhouse critics who say he should not have been on tv or giving interviews before the trial. This guy shouldn't be either. But his entire being is personal image, so I get it. He's a mile wide an a micrometer thin, an oil slick. He's protecting the width of the slick, not the depth, because there's not any.

Protecting character leads to one set of actions, protecting image another. When one screws up, we find out quick which is which. This guy is 110% the latter.

Accidents simply happen and have nothing to do with preparedness, lack of attention, or overall stupidity.

Being a technical person in nature, I overly prepare for most things and very rarely have accidents. Red, on the other hand, is a "fly by the seat of her pants" type of person who very rarely plans or thinks about consequences of their actions.

What we are working on right now is her learning to just accept responsibility and apologize if an apology is warranted.

Its NOT going well.

I feel bad for Baldwin or anyone who inadvertently kills someone. However, when handling firearms,it is the responsibility of the individual handling the firearm that it is not loaded with live ammunition and to handle the firearm appropriately.

I’ve used firearms almost 60 years. If the most decorated Navy SEAL or Delta Force operator handed me a gun and said it was unloaded, I would most definitely check the firearm myself.

Hopefully some basic lessons have been learned.

But he lost me when he said he doesn't feel any guilt over it. End of the day, he was the person holding the gun at the moment it went off/fired/discharged/whatever you want to call it. I would feel insane amounts of guilt if that were me.

Not expressing any sense of guilt may end up lightening Baldwin's wallet. If I were the husband of the woman that Baldwin killed and heard that nonsense, I would be very motivated to make him feel some pain. Not a very smart move by a man with impulse issues for years.

"What seems far more likely is Baldwin kept the trigger depressed as he pulled the hammer back. Then, when he released the hammer, the trigger kept the sears out of the way, and the gun fired. Perhaps Baldwin is making some kind of semantic argument about pulling a trigger rather than keeping it depressed while cocking the hammer, but that’s a distinction without a difference.

The most likely scenario remains that Baldwin had his finger on the trigger when the gun fired. His full comments make that even more likely."
