Complaints about the ticket pricing

Apr 14, 2016, 9:50 PM

I will keep this as simple as possible for those who don't understand how they would dare charge students a fee to sit in the lower deck.

Ok, so you own a hotdog stand, and you have a recipe for the best hot dogs in the world. Every day, you bring 100 hot dogs with you to the stand and you give them away. Then, you decide that you can still distribute all of your hot dogs even if you charge $5 for each. So, you can either make $0 revenue a day, or you can make $500 a day. Which do you choose?

This is not a charity. Welcome to the real world.

No wonder water was $4.00.

I get what you are saying, but the students pay thousands of dollars in tuition....and if it werent for the students (Clemson IS a school forst, after all) there would be no football team

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are MANY schools that have higher tuition and no FB

Apr 14, 2016, 11:03 PM

Saying that football wouldn't exist without the school is a red herring used to distract from the real argument - should students pay to attend an extracurricular function.

Anyone here go to Senior Prom? Have to pay? YES. Why? Because it is an EXTRA thing!!! You wouldn't have it without high school. Some schools don't have it. Everyone pays to go.

Re: There are MANY schools that have higher tuition and no FB

Apr 14, 2016, 11:51 PM

Lots of schools have a junior / senior and only juniors pay. So it's actually more like a group of seniors who paid for the class before them, having a group of juniors decide they should double the budget for the prom but not pay for it and break tradition and demand that the seniors pay for it for the first time.

But It didnt cost me 30k to go to high school

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually...

Apr 15, 2016, 10:20 AM

it costs your parents (and now you) more than $30k for your ability to go to high school.

That's right, Clemson is a school first.

And students pay all of that money for an education, not free football tickets.

Running with that example

Apr 14, 2016, 11:24 PM

For sake of comparison, say you have already invested hundreds of dollars into this hotdog provider. And as an added benefit to this investment, you were able to get some free hotdogs. All of a sudden, after you are having to invest more and more due to rising rates, this hotdog stand decides to charge you a fee to get the good hotdogs, but you could have a cold one for free if there are any left, after previously being promised free hotdogs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let's actually make this analogy work

Apr 15, 2016, 12:21 AM

You have said hot dog stand. It's an incredibly successful hot dog stand. You bring in cash for your dogs, hand over fist. The majority of your customers choose freely to walk down the street and pay $5 for your dogs.

But in this mythical, magical world, there's a smaller group of people that has to pay thousands of dollars just for the privilege of walking down the street where you sell your dogs. They struggle to do it, but they love your hot dogs so much. One day, you know these folks won't have to pay that fee to walk down this street. Each year, that fee goes up. However, they will remain loyal customers to you for life.

So you've given them free hot dogs. It hasn't hurt you because your other customers keep the business thriving. And now, this year, you invented a new type of relish that has brought in even more customers. Your business is booming!

But, in spite of all this, you suddenly decide to start charging those "freeloaders" for their hot dogs. You don't need more money. You've just really grown very fond of it.

And that makes you an #######.

There. I think that make this very irrelevant analogy less nonsensical.

Wait you forgot the part about only being 100 hotdogs.

So to distinguish who really wants them you set a fee. So you guarantee hotdogs to those willing to pay and give the rest away. If they sell out the others can still have pretzels for free.

But, in spite of all this, you suddenly decide to start charging those "freeloaders" for their hot dogs with relish. They can still have regular hotdogs for FREE because you are a sympathetic fellow. The same regular hotdogs that your other customers still have to pay for. You need the money cause you keep building more and more add-ons to your hot dog stand.

Re: Complaints about the ticket pricing

Apr 15, 2016, 7:36 AM

My dad played football and baseball for USC and mom was a cheerleader, but I was the first one in my family to go to Clemson. My tickets were "free" and I had great experiences at both basketball sideline behind the visitors bench and waited or traded to get the best seats at the football games usually in sec A-C Lower level. Hill sometime for friends. Struggled through terrible teams, BUT great experiences and even knocked off some of the big boys in basketball. Yes basketball was better than football back in 70s at times.

Due to those wonderful "free" hotdogs I joined Iptay when money was tight , BUT due to the fun and excitement and the Hope of getting better as Clemson teams, I supported Iptay. I gave to both Iptay and the alumni fund. I supported the dream BECAUSE OF THE "FREE" TICKETS. We had that dream in 81 and almost this pass year. I know it takes a lot of support to get the dream, but you don't have to go bankrupt doing it. Also, as with any organization there is the old hidden ball trick. Friend of a friend, big donors, who's who, whatever you want to call it that get the special treatment.
