Nope. 11 game regular season. 9 conference games plus non conference games. Then conference championship games. Go to a 16 team playoff. The lower division has been doing this for years..it depends on what y
"they"want. If you desire a true undisputed champ that is it. If you have that kind of bracket you could go to a 10 game regular season if you wanted. Again, it's all about what "they" want. "They" like being involved so "they" will not do this. They= media and money. It's not about a true champion at this point.

Nobody thinks the best team in the country is anyone other than Clemson or Alabama. Anyone trying to expand the playoffs to include a bunch of teams with no legitimate claim to being better than either is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

They’re already putting in undeserving teams when they included Notre Dame.

Don’t be a bitter coot. OSU, I would agree with, but if ND wasn’t in, who would be? Please don’t say aTM...

Cincinnati, coastal or at least someone that would be new and we don't know will lose.

Like we know ND and A&M would lose.

You aren’t being objective man. Cincy would get absolutely destroyed.

ND gets the nod splitting with Clemson. I’m sure you are joking somewhat. I hope.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah it would be a real mystery whether Bama

could beat Coastal. That would be an epic matchup.

If the predictable four-team playoff is hurting the game...

Dec 20, 2020, 5:30 PM

perhaps...just maybe...it's time for ALL of those other teams to start playing better football.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Re: If the predictable four-team playoff is hurting the game...

Dec 20, 2020, 9:30 PM

This is why you combine an 8 team playoff with a reduction in scholarships - to allow talent to be more evenly dispersed throughout college football - and to keep the big teams from stockpiling it so.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

People need to " G.O.I "! Here is why.

Dec 20, 2020, 5:32 PM

Get Over It - because if you win your conference - a.k.a a playoff every week! Then you earn your way in. Who else this year besides A & M has a gripe?

I want anyone of the people the author who wrote this piece to answer me that. The question is: A & M is the only team with a legit gripe.

Notre Dame beat two ranked teams in North Carolina and Clemson.

A&M beat one - in Florida at home.

2 is greater than 1 last I checked. It's simple math and people need to get over it! As far as it being the same teams. What are you going to do - say Clemson, Alabama you only get to go "every other year" to give everybody else a chance? No.

Yeah, but Cincy had a 14 point win over Army, 3 point win over 3 loss UCF, and a game ending FG to beat Tulsa by 3.

Re: People need to " G.O.I "! Here is why.

Dec 20, 2020, 5:59 PM [ in reply to People need to " G.O.I "! Here is why. ]

Such a poor take, but I'll leave A&M out of it now for the obvious bias reasons.

First, every single G5 team that has went undefeated and has been left out over the years has a legitimate gripe. They can win every single game in their conference and do everything right and they still will never get into the playoff. The knee jerk response to that is usually the dumb statement of "schedule someone better" or "join a P5". Well, they can't. Its been attempted.

If it was simple math there would be no subjectivity in the process and a true playoff would happen. Instead there is subjectivity and its an invitational setup.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: People need to " G.O.I "! Here is why.

Dec 20, 2020, 6:23 PM

The reason those teams can’t schedule better OOC games is they insist on an even home and home slate. If you truly want respect then go on the road and prove it by beating one of the big boys on their home field.

If going unbeaten is the only thing that matters then why should Clemson or any other team bother to schedule any tough OOC games? Let’s just fill up our OOC schedule with nothing but SC State and Charleston Southern type of teams.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: People need to " G.O.I "! Here is why.

Dec 20, 2020, 6:47 PM

Many of the big teams already load up their OOC with cupcake games. The blue bloods typically are not going to take chances with risky G5 teams because its not much to gain. You take a loss and then some team from the PAC gets chosen over you because they had a flawless record against kiddie pool talent. But the committee has shown that it still doesn't respect when a G5 upsets a team, because a few weeks ago they had Iowa State ranked higher than the G5 team that beat them.

And if I was in the position of a prominent G5 team I would insist on a home-and-home as well. You want them to come groveling just because of the conference designation? Then when they finally play 7-8 years down the road you only want to give them one shot because of historical accomplishments? Not at all.

Either employ a system where they play the games and prove the points on the field with the current teams, or stop maintaining the narrative that G5 teams have a legit shot. They don't.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get it, it's boring to play the same

Dec 20, 2020, 5:39 PM

teams every year, I definitely have alabama fatigue. And the rest of the country has Clemson/Alabama/osu fatigue.

Of course I'm glad that Clemson is in, just wish texas and usc and oregon were the other three teams.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. Ready for Bama Clemson V

In Miami! Should be a terrific game - helluva lot better than Clemson Oregon or whatever!

Let me guess, it is Dabo's fault right....

Dec 20, 2020, 5:46 PM

for building an elite program at Clemson that has the full backing of the fanbase and college administration?? It is Dabo's fault that he wanted to build the brand the correct way and emphasized FAMILY in everything we do.

This is why Clemson is special and this is why Clemson will continue to dominate college football for years to come. Everyone else can deal with it or get outta the way!

Go Tigers!!!

As a Tiger fan, I LOVE Clemson getting to compete for Championships...but I still don't understand see mindsets around here when it comes to Playoff expansion.

It's coming whether you all like it or not. Personally, I'm EXCITED that we'll have more teams in and get more interesting matchups than hoping the bowl committee pairs interesting teams.

Don't care if it hurts the regular season, doesn't hurt college bball any and evidentially, being SEC doesn't mean much for regular season losses either so anyone really wanna argue about regular season anymore?

I think the bigger thing is that most these recruits choose these schools because of exposure and ability to compete for Championships.

Some of you are forgetting we are only a decade removed from being one of those programs that was ecstatic to get a 4-star commitment; CJ Spiller and James Davis were crazy pick ups back in the 2000s and were more of an exception than the norm like now.

That's going to be harder to achieve for programs at that level we were because those kids are like Zion was in basketball.... wanting to compete for Championships not hometown glory or helping build a program.

Re: Here we go .... media is bored with CF Playoff selections

Dec 20, 2020, 6:54 PM

2 reasons I see as to why we won't go to an expanded playoff. Too many games in an already busy season. Individual schools aren't willing rightfully imo to give up home games where they make money instead of traveling to games where they struggle to break even. More teams just means the same arguments over the same final two spots.

Its already a lock to expand. Its 100% . Colin Cowherd at FS1 and the pundits at ESPN have said they have sources and that it is just a matter of when. They need more TV markets involved and some major markets are losing interest. It's just a business decision. Kind of like the NFL having so many teams in the playoffs.

The argument for the current format is cyclical. "The CFP is the best format because they pick the best 4 teams. And every year one of the 4 teams they pick wins the national championship." Even Dabo makes this same argument. Yeah duh, because 13 people in a room, all with agendas and bias, pick the 4 who CAN play for it. Every sport except FBS the champion is decided on the court/field/pitch/track. But FBS says we will put 13 people in a room to choose among 5 conferences who can play for this trophy. You say "OMG Cincy/Coastal would get DESTROYED by Clemson/Bama" etc. Like Oklahoma, Ohio St (31-0), Michigan St haven't??? In all the years of the CFP, I can think of only 3 decent semifinal games (2014 OSU/Bama, 2017 UGA/OK, 2019 Clemson/OSU).

If you go from history or bias or 'eye test' to decide everything, does App St go to Michigan and beat them? Does Jimmy V win a national championship at NCST? Does Coastal win the CWS? BCS took one step. CFP got us one step closer - now they have 4 chances to get it right, not just 2. But better is still not complete. And its still biased.

Opening games should be OOC “bowl” games to kick the season off right

Legit OOC games need to be played instead of cupcakes, but cupcakes make sure there is slight risk of injury, etc

Give the G5 teams a chance, then they get exposure and the recruiting benefits that come along with it. CCU hosting game day is something nobody would bet on, ever.

Yes, Clemson and Bama are probably the best teams out there. Remember when we lost to Pitt and Syracuse? Sometimes the underdog comes through and it’s exciting ( for the dog and the haters).

It’s easier in basketball, but everyone loves a good Cinderella story. Look how close Florida and northwestern were in the championship games. Had they won those, would Bama and OSU be in? Bama, absolutely. OSU, meh

I mean, hayull even this year Clemson was given the benefit of the doubt with our quality loss to ND. Missing stars on both sides of the ball and we never suffered in the rankings (at least staying in the top 4)
