Saw couple WVu bloggers saying Mountaineers should & would be

Jan 25, 2022, 4:48 PM

joining ACC “when” expansion happens again.

What think you?

I couldn’t care less but did drive up in 1999? in a rv to Morgantown to see #1 Buckeyes put it on them..but stadium & town back then were ok while drive up was nice since scenic.

Sorta like a hilly VT but lots more country-like in feeling.

Can they meet the academic requirements?

Not that UNC really cares if their athletes do.

While WVU is not great, they are better than Louisville...

Jan 25, 2022, 5:16 PM

WVU ranks around 125 nationally while Louisville is in the 176 range.

All of the other ACC schools are ranked within the top 80 nationally.

For comparison purposes, Mississippi State is 196, LSU is 172, Arkansas is 162, Alabama and Ole Miss are tied at 148, Kentucky is 127, Missouri is 122, South Carolina is 117, Tennessee is 103, and Auburn is 99.

POTD - in my eyes! It tells a tale of "priorities" and having them and not having them in the correct order!

Legal ?????

Jan 25, 2022, 5:47 PM

Probably stupid question: "but, would adding new teams give the ACC just cause to renegotiate a new deal"?
Would that be enough to get out of the current deal or is there no way out of it?

This is just my opinion--adding one team would matter only if that team was named Notre Dame.

I don't get ND's reluctance to join the ACC as a full member. The ACC payout per team is higher than their NBC contract I believe. If they join and schedule 8 conference games, this would still leave them four open games to schedule, Navy, Michigan, the real USC and others they play regularly. What am I missing.

The ACC is laughably far behind in conference per team payout. Any additional team will have to result in an increase in per team payout.

WVU brings the $$$, they’re in. If they don’t, they’re out.

I don't see that they bring that much to the table in any sport.

Went to several conferences in Morganton 10 years or so back. Town was bleak. Stadium was flanked by trailer parks. The drive in from the airport in Pittsburg was colorless. The highway cuts looked like they ran thru coal. Snowed every year I was there. Reminded me of the Paul Simon song where all the colours of the rainbow were black. Driving in from the south, however, was totally different. Crossed the New River Gorge (now National Park) Drove down to Highland County, VA, on one return trip on what was the VA Turnpike, crossing the ridge with windmills as far as I could see in either direction.

Had the poor luck that one of the conferences I attended was in Feb 2012 and the road number signs on state highway 70 had been modified to read WV/70/Clemson 33.

Ha!
Well, the only thing I can say about WVU is: "they indirectly helped us win two national championships b/c of that game"!

It helped "usher in Brent Venables to Clemson"!

As far as WVU joining the ACC. If they can't hack it in the classroom; I say no.
From a "TV footprint, they bring almost nothing to the table"! Where is the National interest and eyeballs wanting to see the Mountaineers?
No go!

While I would enjoy go up to WV every couple of years to see a game and I think they field competitive teams in a lot of sports I don’t think they’ll be added to the conference. If we (The ACC) wanted WV we’ve had at least two opportunities. So unless a situation arises that we need numbers to stay a viable conference (like the big 12 this past year) I don’t see us changing our minds and asking them to join us.

From reports it sounds like WV begged us this past summer to join. I know some on here say we wouldn’t let them join because of academics I don’t believe that to be the case. (See Louisville). I believe money does the talking.
$$$
I would guess they don’t bring in enough revenue (tv views).

Last thing I’ll say though is a road trip to Morgantown in WV (with the leaves changing) would be awfully nice. I also love how rabid the fan base is. I’ll give them props. They’re very passionate.

Not enough teeth per student to qualify for the ACC.
