One of the things I remember most was the van ride from the airport to the resort. I wondered why they were passing out so much free alcohol as everyone was waiting for and boarding the van. I soon learned that making that ride sober, on a narrow single lane road with numerous blind curves, was ill advised.

We were ushered into what could only be characterized as a lifted El Camino with forward facing wooden stadium seats bolted into the bed. Had I not imbibed in the airport after departing the plane, I'm not sure that I would have made the journey.

LOL. My mom and dad were there about 30 years ago and said the same thing! Other than that, they loved it. We decided to pay extra for the special car service to the resort.

Funny story when mom and dad were there...dad was a huge Rodney Dangerfield fan in the 70's before he really ever came to fame in the 80's. While in Jamaica in the early 90's they ran into Dangerfield who had a place near the resort.

For some reason he took a liking to my redneck dad from South Carolina and he and my mom ended up eating dinner with him several nights. He never called my dad by his first name, only his last name. Said the guy was not only funny but super nice and down to earth.

I've heard that story and all the Dangerfield jokes a million times but talking to my dad on the phone Sunday night and he had to share it again LOL.
