Only disappointing weigh-in results were Mukuba & Pennington

Aug 4, 2022, 6:11 PM

Mukuba at 180 lbs is not ideal for a guy at Safety. That's way too light. I would have like to have seen him around 190-195 lbs. That would put him at about what Brian Dawkins was when he played. I fear it will be tough for him to stay healthy at the weight.

Pennington was a guy that Dabo had high hopes of starting at Guard last year until he got injured. Weighing in at 360 lbs is way too high and likely puts him in Dabo's "Love Shack". He can't help us like I had hoped on the O-Line at that weight.

What about Briningstool and Sage Innis? Both TEs dropped significant weight .

I noticed that too and was hoping that it is evidence of a change in the usage of our tight ends - lighter for more speed and a larger receiving role in the offense. We haven't flooded the middle of the field the same way since Leggett left. Another post discussed Thomas Austin beefing up the OL. Perhaps Kyle Richardson is prepping the boys for more targets. Exciting stuff.

I noticed that as well. Is it purposeful for speed? Doubtful since they need to block.

Mukuba was electric last year, imagining him being faster and more agile is a terrifying thought for opposing coordinators. I think Andrew deserves the benefit of the doubt on this one.

LBs should handle the rush this year. He needs to be able to

make up ground on a corner bust and cover quick slots. Speed over size.

It may mean Mukuba will mostly play Nickel & Corner this yr

Covil was impressive during the Spring. Even with Zanders stepping away from the game, we've got several other functional Safeties in Venables, Phillips, and Mickens. I wouldn't be surprised if Lukus gets some cross training at Safety too. He's got a big frame that will likely fill out with time. Based on his High School tape, he loves to hit people. He could be a big time Safety.

Mumbka will play some corner this year so he is not gonna just play safety. And Pennington is just big

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I hope not, we have lockdown type corners

Aug 4, 2022, 9:03 PM

In Wiggins, Pride, and Lukus. We need dynamic Safety play from Mukuba.

Last time I checked, Mukuba was a star last year and is an All-American candidate this year. Trust the coaches.

So sad to even use the words disappointing and Mukuba in the same sentence. He was a beast for us last season so I trust he is just where he needs to be.

He will have more range, we don't need him in the box***
