LB play . . .

Aug 31, 2014, 10:52 AM

What was your take on our LB play last night? Obviously our entire defense got gassed by the 4th quarter, but I thought our DL and DBs looked pretty good for most of the night; not so much for our LBs. They looked like they were out of position, misreading plays, and chasing from behind for much of the game. I know LB is supposed to be a strength this year, but I sure don't see any Jeff Davis/Anthony Simmons/Levon Kirklands out there, or anybody even close. Thoughts?

great on special teams, but seemed hesitant on defense

Agree. Tony Steward needs to play inside. He is more of

a MLB, IMO.
The angels were just a step off, which tells me that thhey were used to practicing against slower prep team RB's.

Arm tackling won't work against power backs.

Spot on analysis. Tony Steward and Stephone Anthony playing every down sideline to sideline against Gurley and a lead blocker isn't a fair fight.

I'm sure I'll be corrected...I never saw a LB make a first

He was the best LB we've had in a long time. We miss him.***

apparently you do not know how the the coach coaching circle jerk works.

Pathetic

Aug 31, 2014, 11:08 AM

Is the word that comes to mind. Thought this was a position of strength and it clearly is not. Same ole crap. Poor angles, backside LB out of position, can't get off blocks effectively, poor tackling. BV took a major step back last nite.
Thankfully we play in the ACC so we may get to 8 wins.

It is a byproduct of practice...Both who and what. Can't simulate those rb and we don't exactly run a power crack toss sweep on offense. Power teams will always give us problems because we are not a power team by nature. FSU gives us problems because they just better across the beard.

I saw fresh-legged 4th string Chubb run thru Stephone

Aug 31, 2014, 11:18 AM

arm tackle late in 4th. Chubb looked great, and Anthony looked exhausted. My question to add on to Mr. S.T. post is ... how many reps did Boulware get? We have heard Boulware loves to hit, and we clearly needed fresh legs in rotation last night.
