I certainly hope the original story proves to be false.

We'll see. How do these witnesses know what happened

Jun 25, 2008, 7:28 PM

inside the apartment?

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

Re: We'll see. How do these witnesses know what happened

Jun 25, 2008, 10:46 PM

They don't really need to know what went on inside the apartment. If they can refute the part of her story about him pushing her down the steps, which happened outside the apartment, then that basically discredits her whole story. If she lied about part of the story, then you can't believe any of it.

Re: You must not have a daughter!!!

[1]
Jun 25, 2008, 8:42 PM

Having a daughter or not has absolutely nothing to do with this. He very well may have doe everything the girl claimed, or she may have blown it all out of proportion and lied some. Regardless, he's innocent until proven guilty, so this will have to play out over the next few months.

DeAndre McDaniel update
Posted 05:14 p.m., June 25, 2008

Spoke earlier with attorney Chris Olson, who is representing Clemson defensive back DeAndre McDaniel in the wake of McDaniel's arrest last week on charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Let's just say Olson believes these serious charges are completely bogus. And to support that belief, he said three witnesses have come forward to refute the allegations of McDaniel's girlfriend, who claims McDaniel choked her, punched her and shoved her down a flight of stairs last Saturday night at McDaniel's apartment.

Olson said one of the witnesses includes a neighbor who happened to see part of the incident unfold outside the apartment.

"He's got good witnesses, I'll tell you that," Olson said. "And these are not witnesses we just drummed up."

I'm writing a story on this for tomorrow's paper, and there will be more details there.

I'm also working on obtaining the statements given by the three witnesses. Olson said they have been submitted to the university.

More later.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link

I will only say this...

[4]
Jun 25, 2008, 7:14 PM

I'm pretty sure I haven't chimed in, it's a cut and dry deal. If he did it, he's made a big mistake and won't play for Clemson again. If not, yada yada...

BUT, from the first time I read it, and I saw where she says she "pushed his head," I had a funny feeling that this may not be the whole story. I'm not saying he didn't do ANYTHING, I'm saying that he might not have done EVERYTHING. You don't push someones head, you hit it, or you don't touch it at all. That part for some reason just sounded really peculiar.

And I'm not by any means saying he's guilty or not, I just had to chime in and say that one sentence I found to be odd.

I'm praying for justice. I'm done.

Here's my wild-azz speculation

[2]
Jun 25, 2008, 7:19 PM

She got up in his face - mouthy and pushed his head. He got mad - she went bat-sxxx.

He tried to push her out of the apartment. She was fighting, she charged him and he put his hand out to keep her back - bruise ("hit me in the chest"). He pushed her to the stairs to get out, she falls - (drunk?).

Of course - maybe not. My only point - this could have gone down very differently from simply a man hitting a woman.

From the very beginning it just didn't make any sense that he would just beat the #### out of her for no reason. I know that type of stuff happens all the time, but for someone that hasn't been in any other trouble it just didn't add up.

Jun 25, 2008, 9:55 PM

may get out of it early enough to save his career. If allegations prove to be false, she ought to receive the same sentence he would have gotten if he was proven guilty...up to 10 years in the slammer. More of this type of medicine would put and end to these type of accustions.
