I just watched that. Pretty strong opinions but that GOR is the big gorilla in the room.

Thank you for sharing a good breakdown of the pros and cons of moving to a different conference (SEC or B1G).

Folks may have already covered this but I'm curious what a "new" conference would look like if 7 or 8 teams breakaway from the ACC? It may only be talking heads, and it sounds like there aren't many more quality programs out there to bundle in a way to create substantially more revenue for Clemson.

I like the new conference idea too. 8 ACC teams plus 4. No idea who the plus 4 should be but the idea is good I think. Only problem would be what TV package could a new conference iron out.

Get Notre Dame in for real and cut a deal with NBC sports

The ACC is going to limp on

With Clemson and Florida State chained to it like Jack and Rose chaining themselves to the Titanic. The ACC will sink to a group of five level and bring us down with them. No Way Out!
STOP SIGNING 20 YEAR DEALS!!!!

IN 13 years we won't be able to recognize these programs. They may be good on a group of five level but not really competitive against power five (four, three) schools. Yes we will win games every now and then against them but for the most part we will be App State. I can't stress enough how damaging signing that horrible deal was. I certainly hope I am wrong. But I see no way out of this.

Our loyalty to a confrence that regularly takes a dump on us will destroy our football program as we know it.

8 teams need to vote to dissolve the conference per the bylaws (with landing spots for those 8 teams predetermined). Once the conference is dissolved, the GOR starts to lose its teeth. The rights of each school were granted to the conference, which will no longer exist. Also, a good chance that liability to the individual universities is mitigated by the NC Unincorporated Nonprofit Act which governs the likes of the ACC. This legal exercise is really just a bargaining chip to negotiate with TV and the Big 2 conferences. At the end of the day, there is no way the big ACC schools ride this crap deal out for its stated duration.

I have always believed he was involved in their fake academics before he left as UNC AD. I have always been disappointed Clemson ever voted for him as AD

There is no such thing as an iron clad contract. If there was, you would not need an attorney to draw one up. You would just copy and paste from the "iron clad" one. You just have to find an attorney that is smart enough to find the loophole. There is always a loophole. Maybe dissolving the conference is that loophole, and is the only one, and if so, the conference will be dissolved. The GOR is not going to tie Clemson and FSU to the ACC for 13 more years. No way. If the NLRB labor suit wins against USC, making FB players employees, that will negate any media rights contract.

If no contracts are ironclad, then why not just have the ACC break the contract with ESPN?

What must be done eventually....

2

May 22, 2023, 7:12 PM

should be done immediately.

As the guys @ WC accurately said, the disparity in $$$ of 13 years warrants leaving compared with the exit fees. Schools aren't going to stay in a bad situation THAT long. Its already toxic now.

Forming a new conference is basically DOA. Less than 1% chance of happening.

Dabo has said where this is going. Enjoy the ride.....

Missed Dabo’s take…where did he say it was going?

I seem to recall him saying something like he thinks change is coming but he doesn’t when or how. He said he had no inside info, just his opinion.

I think what Dabo was referring to...he thought there would

May 23, 2023, 7:36 PM [ in reply to Missed Dabo’s take…where did he say it was going? ]

only be 40 or so schools really wanting to play big-boy football, and those 40 teams would eventually break from the NCAA and form their football only alliance, perhaps leaving the conferences as is for the other sports, that would continue to be governed by the NCAA.

That would have been the best solution, but with greedy Skanky and the SEC only concerned with themselves, that solution will never happen! The whole deal is enabled by the ESPN paying the SEC more than they are worth, and suckering the ACC into a terrible deal, that they are now stuck with!

Maybe Disney and ESPN will go bankrupt, and their deals with both the SEC and ACC will fall apart! After all, they are already firing folks left and right, so they can pay their bills!
