Anybody else got a nasty cold virus creeping through their home.

Apr 30, 2021, 3:21 PM

We thought it was just allergies starting out. But it’s been passed from person to person. No fever or anything. Just nasty congestion and cough. I’ve been hearing people around these parts talk about how their allergies are worse this year than ever. But I’ve got a feeling it’s just another virus and covid has all of us not wanting to admit it. Sucks to be sick. But it gives me a good reason to drink bourbon. So there is an upside.

Yeah I've had a cough all week.

At my house the pollen rolls up into speed bumps and there's usually a yellow fog in the afternoon, butt starting to think it's not just allergies since I've never had them before.

Last week, my kid had something like that. We definitely

attributed it to allergies because we'd been out in the yard all day.

but we spoke to his teacher and she said that the whole class had a cold and it had been going around.

Then late last week, I started feeling a little crummy and told the wife that "I think I'm getting an actual, bona fide cold. This is what a cold feels like." It took me a while, but that was it. I started popping some Zicam gummies and I rebounded pretty quickly.

and it definitely wasn't corona because we got the clemson spit test done a over the week to make sure.

now, it's back to allergies. itchy eye. dry nose. nose bleeds. good times.

Yes, it has slowly and methodically moved through our house

Apr 30, 2021, 3:35 PM

as well. Started with 12yo. Major sniffles, sore throat, headache, diarrhea, and a barky cough and a very low 100-degree fever. 3 days later middle son (7yo) started in with sniffles/sore throat. He then had a headache, cough, and ran a little fever. 3 days later 3yo son got it. Same deal. Then wife got it. Lord she does bad with colds. Headache, sniffles, cough, sinus pressure, sore throat, lost her voice, etc. And now finally me. Sniffles, tiny sore throat and squirts. This has been going on now for two full weeks. Oldest is fine now. Middle son and youngest still a little sick. Wife's still sick, and I'm just starting in on it.

I don't think it's covid, but it's definitely an odd "cold" virus though. Never had one move so slowly through everyone in the house. Almost never does this entire house get something, and if we do, multiple people get sick at once. Not this slow and methodical spread over 2+ weeks.

Pretty sure that's Rona dood. You should do a test

Apr 30, 2021, 3:37 PM

Hear's the home test. Make beef in a plastic container. Take 2 fingers (not 3, not 1) and scoop out a smidgen of it. Place it on the back of your tongue. If you throw up, you don't have teh Rona. If you do throw up you didn't have teh Rona. Butt now you do have the Rona.

Oldest tested negative, so we went with that

Still, couldn't send him to school without that test. We just kept the others home while barking and hacking up lungs, since we didn't want the school to freak out, or have to go back to the doctor like umpteen times.

It's not the rona, but it is a nasty virus of some sort (think that's a quote from the pediatrician).

The diarrhea is an interesting symptom, as is fever.

But kids seem to get fevers like I get the runs. Every other day, it seems like. Regardless of what it is, this crap going around sucks. Everybody’s immune system ought to be crushing illnesses by the end of what we’re going through. We will all either live to be 150 years old or die within months.
