Last post didn't go so well so i'll try again...

Aug 24, 2016, 3:23 PM

Would anyone like to have a shot at honesty rebutting Sam's arguments in my last post?

I'm not asking for you to debate me; I am however super curious to see how someone could hear his argument and still believe in christian theology.

I am all ears. In fact, I won't be responding to any posts in this thread. I'll just read them.

All I ask is that if you are going to respond, please keep it on topic otherwise just ignore/downvote this.

Faith

Blind faith, at that.

Aug 24, 2016, 3:33 PM

Also, that's not really an explanation for WHY you have said faith. Do you have any explanation or logic for why God causes or allows so much pain and suffering to children, and why 75% of the planet is born into eternal damnation simply due to their ethnicity and religious upbringing?

Or are we just going with "faith"?

I'm agnostic...

...but it's the most logical answer to his question.

I don't feel like watching the video

Aug 24, 2016, 3:31 PM

Could you summarize what it says?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lots of children under five die every day...

Aug 24, 2016, 3:56 PM

many of them never heard the Gospel, and thus according to (some, which is not mentioned) Christian theologies, they are condemned to hell without ever having a chance. If Hell is a torturous eternity, where is the justice and love that Christians proclaim to be the main attributes of their God?

You act like you're this critically thinking person and we're all just a bunch of dumb hicks but you can't get past "bad things happen so God doesn't exist".....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not really the argument at all.***

It may not be yours but it certainly is the one the video focuses on and the argument dareal beats to death.

Discuss the main points then.

Aug 24, 2016, 3:37 PM [ in reply to Re: Last post didn't go so well so i'll try again... ]

I think that's all dareal is requesting. I've always been curious myself how some of these things are reconciled amongst believers. The explanations are interesting, even fascinating. Would you rather not talk about it? I can see why it's potentially discomforting. I don't necessarily agree with dareal being as abrasive as he is, but I think there are some very legitimate points of discussion in this video (points that have been around as long as religion).

Re: Discuss the main points then.

Aug 24, 2016, 3:50 PM

We've discussed them repeatedly....

I disagree with the assertion that Christians are being insensitive to people who are in situations like he described....go watch the documentary Where was God about a town that was destroyed by a tornado and you'll hear the stories of people who lost everything who came out of it with stronger faith. Christians go though terrible things every single day just the same....

See, dareal bases his arguments off of this view that all Christians are sitting comfortably in their tight knit communities going to church on Sundays and have never had to deal with any of the pain and suffering that is in this world.

So God sends pain and discomfort to bring his followers

Aug 24, 2016, 3:53 PM

closer to him?

Seems a bit...sadistic, no? Almost like an abusive relationship.

And then what of the pain he sends to those who have never heard the word? What purpose would that serve?

One thing I tell people, though i do forget this at times, is this - God does not need for me or any other Christian to defend Him. He is our shield, I am not His. This makes for a harsh reality that I think is reviewed quite well in that link.

John 3:16; 14:1-6

That's really not the argument in the video

Aug 24, 2016, 5:24 PM [ in reply to Re: Discuss the main points then. ]

A key point was that moral people are spending eternity in hell simply because they prayed to a different god than Christians do. Meanwhile a person who has lived an immoral life and accepts Jesus just before death is then welcomed to heaven? Is this fair? Also where are the people that lived and died before Christianity was an international religion? Are they in hell simply because their society didn't have any notion of Jesus?
