Last int for clemson

Dec 31, 2019, 7:56 AM

if Olave doesnt break off the route does Turner still get it? I think he may because he had been burned on it before and was in much better position the second time

At the very least I think he breaks it up. From the replay angle behind Fields it appears Turner was in an ideal position - behind the approaching receiver and squarely staring down the QB.

I'm just glad that Fields threw it when he did. Otherwise, if he sees Olave breaking to the left, he probably has a TD.

Even if he didn't, Turner was in much better position to defend that pass than the earlier play

Dec 31, 2019, 8:16 AM

Where he was playing up & got beat on the route. Turner was sitting back @ safety & had opportunity to see the route unfold & was seeing where Fields was looking as well. So even had Olave had stayed on the route Turner was in position to defend it @ least. But either way, was fitting that Turner was the one that made the play to seal the game & had the opportunity to redeem himself.

^^^^ THIS!!!!! ^^^^^

Don’t get me wrong, you could hear my house full of Tigers yelling for miles when Nolan Turner caught that ball and Tanner motioned him down!

But upon the realization that he had redeemed himself, it couldn’t have happened to/by/for a better player!

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Totally agree Turner was in position to make the play

regardless of what the WR did.

I think Fields screwed that play up. I think the play was set to make Turner think he was going to break inside again like on the play they beat Turner on. But it was a deke, and the WR was to break to the outside with Turner thinking it was another post. Fields had a brain phart and threw the post again and nobody was there but Turner.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, but Fields' reaction to the interception told me he was the one who screwed up.

WR for Ohio State explained it this way:

He thought Fields was scrambling. When Fields starts scrambling, the WR is supposed to break off his inside route and run to the corner. He said it was his fault.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the WR slipped down when he tried to cut to the corner and was on the ground when the ball was thrown. Haven't watched it lately, but the last time I saw it I think that I saw the WR on the ground.

Makes perfect sense, then. And the WR did slip. Hadn't

seen that explanation by the player so thanks for bringing that in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Either he gets it or gets a PI call.

Dec 31, 2019, 9:05 AM

He seemed to know well where the pass was going and would have been in a better position than the WR. Fields was feeling the pressure and released the ball within a second of the WR trying to change directions. Had Fields held the ball another second and seen the route change he would have likely hit that WR in that half of a wide open enzone.
