Monday practice observations
The Clemson football team practiced under sunny and warm skies Monday afternoon, and the media was allowed to take in the first six periods. Which running back looks the best? What visitors were at practice? What is the latest on the quarterbacks? Full Story » |

Thanks for the great information. you have a way of putting us right there with you watching these guys. I'm sure Dabo had them doing exactly the part he wants you to see.
Thanks David and Go Tigers!!!

How ironic that Durell Barry is working with Jordan Leggett. His career to this point is almost a mirror of Barry's. Barry had all the talent and the measurables but never seemed to live up to the hype. If I remember correctly he was in and out of the dog house during his time at CU before getting his act together. Glad to have him back at CU.

Were Crowder, Falcinelli, Morris, others very active?

I know you can't list everyone's activity. Just curious if we are really working out all our offensive options before spring ends. I've seen posts about Crowder and a little about Falcinelli but not much on Maverick Morris since spring started.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop on spring.practice. Lots of good info, or all that you can report. QB'S seem to be battling it out for the #3 spot. Good to hear Nick is doing well. O line seems to be a work in progress, and D is moving along. GO TIGERS!!!!

I know im not a coach and I'm not at every practice

Like the coaches are but it seems to me that they aren't putting much of an emphasis on who's returning kicks for us. Ryan Carter? I haven't seen him play yet but i know from reading articles on him while he was being recruited was that his biggest area of concern was Speed. TJ Green wasn't very good at returning kicks last year either and seemed very slow to me. I know we all were spoiled when Spiller, Ford and Watkins were returning kicks but i just have to think that there is better options than Green and Carter.

I'm not a coach or at practice either but I think the philosophy is that the offense is good enough to make up for whatever yards we are giving up on the return.
...unless the returner puts it on the ground.
Which I think has them chasing someone with sure hands (on a kick, which seems to be a slightly different skill set) over blazing speed.
Not to argue the against the sentiment of your point, entirely though. Our special teams seems to range somewhere between "adequate" and "stinks like cheese." A little more emphasis on special teams (read: consistancy) would be welcomed by a lot of us, I'm sure.

Agree ... On punt returns, if we don't do anything but

fair catch the ball, the the returner's speed is immaterial. For whatever reason, we haven't seemed to make much effort to set up returns or to block punts for a couple of years now.
But, during this same period our kick-off return effectiveness has been just plain terrible as well and this is less easy to understand. Just from casual observation, last year we seemed to be about as well off with a touch-back as we were making a return attempt. In fact, we may have been better off not returning the ball and getting it on the 25.

And that 5.7 avg. includes the yardage on the long TD return

Just not much overall production from punt returns and I don't blame Adam ... he has the speed and ability to break a return if he is given a little room, but for whatever reason, we just don't set much up for the punt returner.

All I heard last year was how great pretty boy was. I honestly can't even remember his name. Parker? No Harper? No. You could have Randall Cunningham come in and Dabo would brag about how great the back up was.

Kyle parker was actually good though. He demonstrated that many times

His first season and early in his final train wreck of a season at auburn. He just got shell shocked, was hurt and overall just gave up his last year. It was painfully obvious what was going on there. He was much better than he showed his senior season. Kinda like how everyone's seen Cole stoudt play at a very high level but he just looked terrified to throw the ball all season and made dumb decisions when he try to force a pass after realized he held onto the ball too long and the receivers have already ran their routes. He's no tajh boyd but kyle parker was or atleast had the opportunity to be just as good as Charlie Whitehurst, but he just gave up and had a pisss poor attitude that rubbed off on the rest of the team, but I will give him the fact that we had absolutely nothing at receiver other than Nuk beginning to come into his own. Our offensive line was pretty awful too so he wasn't entirely the problem

I expect Carlos Watkins to have a big year in 2015. Any observations on him or heard anything? Also, Jalen Williams, he IMO was an underrated recruit, any thoughts?
