Yep...

Apr 15, 2020, 9:31 AM

I don’t get it. Not only should that word not be used by ANYONE, but in the forum he was on. I do not feel sorry for him. However he will be back.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I actually do feel sorry for him...

Apr 15, 2020, 9:59 AM

the statement and the "apology" don't add up to a mind that sees an error and wants to correct it. He very well may have come to a better conclusion since the apology video or may find it in days to come, but for now, I really feel sorry for him because if he doesn't find a reason to truly be remorseful and walk out redemption, it will only lead to more issues in his life...
It only gets better or worse, to think that we only remain the same is a false identity that eventually gets revealed in being self-absorbed or even self-destructive...

At some point, another race team will hire him...

Apr 15, 2020, 10:08 AM [ in reply to Yep... ]

but it may be quite a while before that happens.

He was going to be a free agent after the 2020 season and there would have been several teams bidding for his services.

I don’t feel sorry for him because he shouldn’t have said it but at the same time what happens to the black athletes that make racist comments? They don’t lose sponsors, they actually get put on a pedestal. They’re allowed to say whatever they want because “only blacks deal with racism” lmao
Minorities are victims and therefore can say anything they want. On the other hand somebody out there somewhere is looking back on social media from 10 years ago to find a white person that said the N-word once upon a time so they can ruin their life

Care to give any examples of the racist comments made by the black athletes you're speaking of?

I hope the guy saved his money because he will never be hired by anyone ever again. Thats a long time to be unemployable at his age.

a WORD, is considered. It's a word and a mention shouldn't end someone's ability to feed their family.

This world you're living in has lost its collective mind.

I don't condone it, have plenty of history with it, but in a better time Mel Brooks & many to follow, were taking any perceived power it may have had, until simpletons began giving it back.

End a person's livelihood over a word, that's idiocy in its highest form.

It didn’t end his ability to feed his family. I didn’t know Racing was the only way to make money. My kids must be starving then. He can work anywhere he wants. Just not somewhere with sponsors on his door.

profession of which we're speaking is his livelihood and it shouldn't end it.

The gentleperson I replied to said he was unemployable, I would hope to keep it on topic as he's suspended from racing.

Is that difficult to follow or manage?

He has an estimated net worth of 12 million. I don't think he's going to starve any time soon.

I agree that people should get a 2nd chance when they're truly remorseful for their actions. However, the difficult thing for him here is a NASCAR driver isn't employable by a team if they can't find sponsors. He might deserve a 2nd chance eventually, but companies also deserve the right to decide if they want to put their company reputation behind him.

Perhaps he made a mistake, but he was also very fortunate to be in a profession that many people can only dream about while also making millions to do so. Part of his responsibility in return for making those millions beyond just driving a car was to not make mistakes like this that would put his sponsors in a bad situation. They're are thousands of other drivers/athletes in a similar situation as him who haven't made this type of mistake.

throngs, he earned it on the race tracks, no? I'd gather they'd want the best of the best, not those that he left in his exhaust?

I've little doubt the ridiculousness of a word, a WORD, will loom. I take exception with the notion of the OP saying he was unemployable, or a world that would grant a word, a WORD, such power.

It's a word; a WORD, which has been lifted on high, which to me is patently pathetic. I hope that world gathers its senses and the man I'd never heard of until this thread, gets back to doing whatever it is he puts his mind to do.

In any event, all the best to you & yours clemson2003. Be well.

I think if the issue was as simple as a racing team signing him to drive one of their cars that he'd probably look at some sort of suspension, and be right back in a car after serving it. The issue is having a sponsor be willing to pay millions to put their image on the car he drives. The drivers/teams depend on those sponsors to make enough money to pay for the cars, travel, crew, etc...

I'm not speaking to whether I personally think he should or should not get another chance. I'm simply speaking as to why it's more complicated than his employer deciding to forgive him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Honestly don't need a play by play of 'that world', mine...

Yes ..... racing isn't about driving a car. It is about selling sponsorships. Why do people think Danica Patrick raced for so long? Danica was talented, and so is everyone else driving at that level, but the paychecks come from selling sponsorships. You could probably win every race and not generate enough prize money to run a team for the season.

There's good data out there that shows how important...

Apr 15, 2020, 1:29 PM

it is to be in the frame of the camera more than not, so if he's good...

It's why the better drivers/teams are highly compensated, sought after for that lens time, similar to window space in Manhattan, huge money.

Avg. NASCAR purse is near $7mil by now? It's not chump change, but you're right about the billboard that is the racing team & car.

He’s only suspended from nascar and iracing(lol)...Kyle races in all kinds of motor sports and owns his own sprint car team so he will be fine.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Kyle Larson

Apr 15, 2020, 11:18 AM

True but for those guys "owning" your own team requires sponsors to be able to fund the operation. There are few individuals that can afford to run a racing team without sponsors. The sponsorship is what he blew and that will likely be long term.

Re: Kyle Larson

Apr 15, 2020, 12:51 PM [ in reply to Re: Kyle Larson ]

Yeah that net worth will be zero very quickly without sponsors and those all just dried up pretty much forever. May not be right but as soon as somebody takes a chance on him in a few years this stuff will be dredged up all over again.

Riley Cooper did the same thing and he kept his job. He did get suspended though, but not fired. And he worked with a lot more black teammates. Kyle will get hired again, Tony Stewart will pick him up next year or so. The kid has too much talent. It’ll blow over. I wonder if Bubba Wallace would have got fired for saying it?

I don't like or condone the Word. But it is in so many popular songs that young to middle age people listen to, that they throw it out there almost naturally as a regular Word. I'm not for it but I also don't agree that it's ok for blacks to say because their black as I've heard said many times before. People try to ruin peoples lives over so much stupid stuff these days.

Re: Kyle Larson

Apr 15, 2020, 2:35 PM [ in reply to Re: Kyle Larson ]

I'm not sure why so many people seem to think they're making a good point whenever they point out how the word is used in songs. For starters, is it really that important for you to be able to say that word that you'd complain about it being unfair for some people to be able to use it?

Also, there’re several words that we all use when speaking to family or friends, that we'd be upset about if a stranger did the same. Maybe you call your kid a brat and tell them to shut up whenever they behave poorly, but there's a good chance that you would't take kindly to a stranger saying "shut up you little brat" in the store.

Maybe your wife likes it when you call her a b!tch in the bedroom. You probably wouldn't appreciate someone else calling her that.

Or heck, with the same logic of saying it's used in songs, then it's ok for anyone to refer to your loved one with any word that's come out of your mouth previously since you speaking the word makes it ok for other people to say it.

The point I'm making is, the reason a loved one can look past you calling them a certain name is because they know you love them, and they know you don't mean what you're saying in a hateful way. A black person hearing another black person saying this word knows that the person who said it doesn't hate them due to the color of their skin. When they hear a white person say it they don't have that same trust, and if we're being honest here, it's rare that a white person saying this word isn't saying it with some sort of hate behind it. I think you're also assuming that 100% of black people are ok with other black people saying the word. I've heard several black people say that they don't like it being used by other black people as well.
