Clock starting

Jan 11, 2017, 9:05 PM

Question that has been bugging me - why did clock not start when we recovered onside kick?

No, when Huegel recovered the ball his knee was already down. Therefore the clock didn't start.

My understanding is the clock does not start on kick-off's until a player touches the ball and makes a "football move". In this case, the Clemson player that recovered the onside kick was on the ground at the time of recovery (i.e. "down") and therefore the clock never ticked off the one second. Same thing would have happened had we kicked the ball up in the air and had an Alabama player called for a fair catch.
