So a 5-12 ranked team could play 17 games...

...under the new playoff proposal?
Regular season - 12 games Lose Conf Champ game - 13th (a lot of lower ranked teams would come from here) Win 1st round playoff - 14th Win Quarterfinal - 15th Win Semifinal - 16th Play Natty - 17th
Am I looking at this right? If so, makes me wonder if they're also talking about reducing regular season to 11 games.

But these aren’t athletes first. They are students first. So says the NCAA.

Kinda interesting to me with talk of expanding...

...the playoff field that there hasn't been any rumblings (rumors, etc) of reducing the regular season back to 11 games. I hope that doesn't happen, but the possibility of max 17 games (versus max 15 now) makes me wonder. Surely they are talking about that.

If they don’t see themselves as students first they are doing themselves and their families a grave injustice passing up the best opportunity they will ever have to get out of generational poverty and the hood for most of these kids. Because the reality is less than 2% of college football players will ever see the NFL.
All of this crap being pushed by Democrats and liberals is going to destroy college football which will also destroy the Olympic sports and tens of thousands of black kids and poor kids will no longer have the opportunity to get a college education for free. It’s just another example of people on the left using identity politics for power and money and hurting the very people they say they care about the most!
I was at Clemson in the 80s. If you weren’t around in the 70s and 80s or earlier you have no idea the work these kids used to put in and they didn’t have big fancy football facilities. These kids today have it better than ever with amazing facilities and nowhere near the grueling practices of the past. If you really want to see what could have been seen as abuse and exploitation watch the very first ESPN movie, “The Junction Bits”, chronicling Bear Bryant in 1954 at Texas AandM. And those kids back then would’ve done it for free, which many of them did as walk on‘s.
Kids today have no clue how good they have it as college athletes! All this nonsense about getting paid and being exploited is just liberal BS and a money grab! Walk on’s go through the same as 5 star athletes. Most are middle class white kids. If college football players were truly being exploited would middle-class white parents pay for their children to be exploited? Of course not! The narrative today is absurd!

a team with a 5-12 record could play 17 games , came to my senses. You are right about the 17 game season though - but a team wouldn't have to lose their conference championship game in your scenario . I had also thought they might take away a regular season game which would stink for the top four teams who would be the only playoff teams losing a game due to the bye they are proposing.

...5-12 would come from the loser side of conference champ games. For instance a #5 UNC losing to #1 Clemson would certainly remain in the top 12. So they could potentially play 17 games.

Clover65 is correct that somebody could come from 5-12, play 17 games and win their conference championship. The top 4 conference champions get byes but the top 6 conference champions get bids. That guarantees 2 conference champions in 5-12. You couldn't rule out another group of 5 champion being ranked out of the top 6 champions but still high enough to get an at large bid. It seems unlikely, but there has been a lot of competition for the group of 5 entry to the BCS lately.

They won't drop back to 11 games. The schools want the money, espn wants the money, the ncaa wants the money.
Granted, todays players are men, but they are still only 18-22 ish, they aren't grown men. Also, as mentioned they are suppose to go to class from time to time. I hate it.

I’m interested in when they plan to fit these games in December and January. Would the second round of playoffs happen on (or the day before) Christmas? You can’t go too far into the next school session if players have graduated in December. I guess we will see.

Its ridiculous to expect these kids to play 17 games.
This is the best argument for reducing that number. It'll never happen, but I'd also eliminate conference championship games.

I have not heard a player from any team in the nation complaining about the format yet.
